I want to get my mom a special gift for Mother's Day, especially since we live 5 hours away from each other and I won't be able to see her. Does anyone have any good gift ideas? She's a typical mom, but she doesn't like "pampering" stuff and she is not a big reader. BTW she is in her early 50s.

are you sure she doesn't like pampering, cuz I was going to suggest a swedish massage or a european facial but now you've stumped me. Does she garden? does she go out a lot or have a lot of friends you could get ideas off of?

According to me, you can gift a dinner on mothers day for your mom, or gift vouchers, household items, home furnishings, apparels, but according to me best gift is a dinner, going whole family together, this will make your mom very happy. For more gift ideas please refer below link, i once purchased from this site a gift voucher, it is a nice one.

My daughter gave me this 3 hour sail for 2, and she got a half day with the raptors.
Something adventurous like that, that she'd love to do but thinks is too much of an extravagance to buy herself, or would never even think of?
Tickets to a locally produced play or concert?
Donation to her favourite charity? Sponser a child or animal in her name?
Do you have any photos that she doesn't have, of family or you or places that are special to her, that you could frame or make an album of?
Something personal... but not so "special" that she puts it away for "good" and never uses it...(in my case, expensive jewellery)

Thinking personally, the things most precious to me are this box my son made me in junior high;

and when I took my first photo that I was really pleased with, and my daughter got it enlarged and framed. In other words, personal gifts, gifts that show the giver knew me and what I'd like, and put some thought into coming up with something unique.
My daughter is VERY good at that :)

Dunno if this'll be any help, but it might give you the beginnings of some ideas :)
Good luck, and let us know what you come up with!

as a mother I always LOVE photos of my kids. Im sure as i get in my older years thats one thing that will never change. do you have siblings? is there a way you can get a family portrait done? if you all dont live close enough to do this you could have them send you recent photos and do a colage of everyone and have it printed and framed...this is also something that can be done with all her grandkids.

eta: when you send the photo to her include a recording of you reading her a note that you wrote. that way she will be able to see you and hear you..will almost be like you are there
