I was in Indiana at a small airport by Purdue University where I was just at a conference. While waiting for my plane I saw lots of secret service agents and my plane was held up for presidential candidate Ronald Reagan to arrive. I went out to the tarmac and shook his hand. Then I boarded my plane. Lax security by today's standards, I guess!

I grew up in metro Washington DC area and never saw a president the whole time I was there. But then I don't go out of my way to meet politicians.

Just got home, and everything went well, thank goodness! Before President Clinton arrived, I did manage to make a minor ass of myself. I bumped by Gary Fong Lightsphere and it popped off the flash and bounced around on a bunch of cup/saucers by a coffee dispenser. It made enough noise that a couple of the catering people seemed rather alarmed, and I got made fun of for it by others, but that was that.

I spent a good 15 minutes photographing various dignitaries with him, and I was the ONLY photographer in the room, so that was pretty cool. I shook his hand and limited myself to saying "Thank you Mr. President" so I would minimize the chances of saying something really stupid.

Here's a very hastily-edited shot of him with the RMU president and his wife:

Yeah, right. You liked Kennedy. Where were you at that day?

Uh, you didn't use the timer or a remote to get in there yourself?!? :P

...or perhaps you could have asked those nice looking people next to the president to take a shot for you.

I can hear Mr. Clinton's raspy Arkansas drawl now: "Excuse me, Alan, isn't it customary to remove the lens cap?"

Hey, we talk normal here in Arkansas! Its the rest of you that talk funny.

Alan, once again I'm jealous!!

I enjoy the fact that you share your experiences and laughs... I have to snicker as I would be so bumbling and dropping stuff too....brings the experience all very real, no air about you!

thanks so VERY much for sharing.

I think meeting a president, any president is an honor.

I met George Sr when I was in Jr HS while working on the Yearbook staff. We got to interview him.

I met Clinton while stationed in Korea in 98.

I got to meet Bush 'W' in Biloxi while he gave a speech for Barber.

But of course now, my hubby works for Clinton, so we see him all the time. I have yet to meet hillary though, she doesnt come around here very often (and when she does she is a witch about meeting people).

and VERY nice photo you got there, how cool to be the only photog in the room!

Very cool shot, though :D

When I worked at Ascot Racecourse, we won Racecourse of the Year award. As it is the Queen's course, we had a private function for staff to be presented to Queen Elizabeth. We shook hands and had a short chat.

In 1995, we went to Buckingham Palace for the Garden Party:))

Sorry to revive this thread yet again, but I just had to share a few shots that a friend of mine gave me today. These are from my photo shoot with President Clinton last Friday; um, I'm the one with the camera. :)

I think he was genuinely impressed with (or possibly concerned about) the Lightsphere:

If Bill becomes "first man" will you let your daughter intern at the White House? !

That depends on what your definition of "is" is. (I never quite understood that line...)
