We should have a DP Idol! Here's how it works:

Week 1: Open challenge to everyone (advanced editing). The top 100 move on to week two.

Week 2: Another open challenge (basic editing) The top 50 move on to week three.

Week 3: SC mandates challenge. Top 25 move on to week four.

Week 4: SC mandates challenge. Top 10 advance.

Weeks 5 through 14: SC mandates challenge. Each week one DP contestant is eliminated.

anyway I thought this might be fun and another excuse to keep coming to this site.

There's certainly no shortages of Simon Cowell on this site!

Can I be Simon? I like this idea. We need something more interesting going on around here since the DPL is in the hole.

I've never watched "Idol." How would it work? Will the votes show up on my phone bill?

would be easy to organize this using normal site challenges.

yes it would indeed we would have to think of challenges too cant be all free study so maybe like verry broad but containing challenges that appeal to everyone but nothing too challenging that some people might not be able to do such as HDR or expert editing... laastly the only setback i see here woud be how can we restrict the people who arent in the top 100 or top 50 or top 10 to not compete they would have to write code for that or make a new website with a special login...just my rethinking this idea

LETS GET THIS STARTED!!!~~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!

So are we going to boot off the more talented more creativity DPCers just like American Idol does with it's contestants?

well you don't have to stop them from competing. the organizer of the "Idol" challenge would only update the "official" stats with the people who are still in the challenge.

ok true might make it easier though to make it private...

And if there's, say...umm..*nekkid* pictures of contestants floating around on the Internet it's not necessarily a bad thing, eh? ;-)

yeh it would be better, but not with the current infrastructure. someone would have to set up something specifically for this.

I thought this suggestion was apalling, pretentious, self-indulging, and if I'm being honest, a bit karaoke - Sorry. Sorry. At this stage in the challenge suggestions, you're going to have to do betta. :P

Love the idea. :)

I could have sworn there was a thread about this a year ago that even had a logo that looked like the AI logo. I might be crazy because I am so busy I often get things confused, but if somebody has the time they might search for it.

They could simply disqualify images of people who did not qualify for the challenge.

They have ways - they've done it for invitational challenges I think. Wouldn't be too hard.

With all the influence you have on this site I think it may be time to activate your woodies and start an all effort to get this challenge started!!
