Could someone give me a little insight as to why I got all the 1's, 2's and 3's on this shot.
Granted, it would have been a better shot if I had straightend his headbonks, but didnt know how to (I know now!)
Is there something in this shot, that I am not seeing?? I want to reshoot it with any of the suggestions that I get.
Thanks

I like it, however it's a "kid" shot...one of those subjects that can get dinged just for what it is. :-/ |

i think it would look better if the whole frame had more noticeable bubbles, at least on the monitor i am looking at it all seems very blown out. also the flash on his face seems pronounced making it look a bit "snapshotty" |

You scored a 5.933, one of your best scores yet. That's a very nice score. I agree with Michael, a square crop would have made this one much more centered. Aside from that, the shot doesn't look very crisp to me. Something about the face or the eyes seems outside of the focal plane. The highlights on most of your bubbles is blown, leaving very little detail, and there is a strange, pinkish haze over the entire image. Take a look at your corners.

Juliet-Simple answer...it looks like a dissembodied head. A bit creepy even though it is a child. I didn't react well when I opened it up. |

First off, I love these types of shots.. So, I can only say that I would have preferred a tighter crop.. Less white and more of that gorgeous face with those big blue eyes.. I think the suggestion of a square crop would improve it also.. |

i think its a great shot and very cute but i just knowticed from a first glance its a little hard to figure out just exactly the shot is of. maybe full frame, like stated above. something to make the bubbled stand out so you know their bubbles. it needs some conteast from the bubbles and the backround

i'd have voted it a 5 if i had voted on this challenge. The direct flash kills it for me. Also there is a strange cast to it and the bubbles are totally blown out which removes any sense of setting. From the thumbnail it looks like there was the rest of the person attached but you went over it with a white brush. I know that isn't the case but the fact that all the detail has gone brings it down for me.
Also, the kids face itself seems a little dark. Not too much going on on there. If he was smiling, and you lightened it somehow so it didn't look so drab, i think you'd have a better pic... then again, a 5.9 is by no means bad. That's what I got for my last free study entry which is in the inner sleeve of an album cover so don't sweat it. There's a trend now of copying the past ribboners so maybe that's the way to go...

oh man, now i am sorry if i have given you bad dreams!!!
you are right about the slight tint there, until it was cropped, it didnt show on my moniture.
THANK YOU GUYS, now I can see it from others points of views, that is ALL WAYS so important in finding out others views as it always helps with the learning.
I couldnt improve without your help and patients in taking the time to tell me what you think. You are all priceless |

She's obviously cute and it's a great concept -
I think it the expression on her face might have hurt the score. I know how kids are - I shoot one all the time :) and getting them to do something like this isn't necessarily going to generate an authentic smile (I know my little nugget would NEVER do this one!) I also think the skin tone could be played with a bit - maybe brighter and a tad cooler. Definitely something with huge potential worthy of re-shoot!

Its cute but it definitely has a "floating head look" which is kinda creepy. That aside, those who took time to comment voted this a 6.8. Those who got it voted it well.

at the time, I thought to myself that I should probably blow some bubbles on the bubbles to show more bubbles. But he had been in the tub for 1/2 hour by then and was getting pretty sick of it all lolol.
I swear the things I make my kids go through lol.

no no no don't get me wrong , I am not complaining.
well maybe a little bit, I didn't understand the reason behind the 1,2,3 scores. The 4 scores I get and understand.
I love to learn about something that I am passionate about, and soak up all the advice I can get, so that is the reason behind the questions.

But for every 1-2-3 kid hating vote you received, you also had as many 8-9-10 kid loving votes. It all balances out. I gave it a 6, pretty close to what your final score was.

To cut down on the disembodied head look, you might try a few with his hands or knees coming out of the bubbles on the reshoot, it might add more of a sense of play.
And dont worry about the ones twos and threes, the highest rated shots ever posted here get a few of those. Pay attention to the comments, the votes are too hard to understand. |

In fact, some people may react even stronger to creepy because it concerns a child.

I just stumbled across this at JPG Magazine. The lighting is nice, even and the wet hair adds a little perspective.

Great example. I think it worth mentioning that this child is not as uncomfortably close to eating the soap bubbles as in the other one. (Yuck, ew, spittoee!) |
