I've been asked to shoot an event (Customer Appreciation Day with a Halloween/Fall Theme) in October. My client wants 4 hours of shooting (to include family portraits and the event itself), 4x6 prints of the images, and a CD/DVD of the images. My hourly rate includes shooting and editing of the shots. I'm not sure what to charge for the 4x6s (there will be 150-200 of them) or the CD/DVD - any suggestions????
Thanks!

What size of images on CD? That matters a lot to if they will print their own, or if they are only websized.

I suggest around $2,500 to start with.

I would also recommend offering packages to the families who have their portraits made as a source of additional income for the day. You can have them purchase the package on the spot and give them a coupon to purchase from the web or choose the best photo to use as the package photo.

$2500.00 to start with???? Wow......Cali sure is expensive! I like the suggestion of offering packages to the families - thanks for the suggestion! I'll also probably have some brochures and samples available as the holiday season will be approaching. I'll have to ask about the size print on the CD - I assumed (maybe incorrectly) that it would be for a 4x6 print.

Well, It really all depends on what Exactly is needed or expected.

How many families,
How many sittings per family or shots per family,
How many expected captured images of event.
Will Family portraits be done during event If so, will an assistant be needed to photograph event
What type of editing if any is expected
How long to set up/tear down
Do you have freedom to offer packages, or is it expected in overall price
How much is your time worth
Is there any equipment/props/extras you need to satisfactorily capture the event.
Other expenses to think about, what are they? what are they worth to you.
Printing costs, how many prints vs. final charge. Is there Profit?
Are you doing this for Profit or Fun.
