Hey.. another hardware question:

Been drooling over the canon 16-35, but I have my doubts about affordability at this point. Does anybody have any non ef-S wide angle lenses they would recommend? Obviously this isnt easy, but if you know any less expensive, low light wide angle lenses, I'd like to hear your opinion. (They do not have to be made by canon, but fit on the rebel xt)

Cheers!

After some review I ended up buying the Tamron 17-50mm. The price and performance were the key factors for me. The F2.8 is great. It makes for a nice walk around lens.IT is a definite upgrade from that kit lens.
Have a look at this website //www.slrgear.com YOu can choose a lens that has been tested and click on the blur index and play around with the sliders to see how the lens performs and where it is the sharpest. Of course this is just one source of the many that are out there. Good luck!

I had (have) the Tamron 17-35 - which I bought second hand - I LOVED IT within an inch of it's life, barely had it off my camera until I got the Canon 10-22 (which I ADORE!)

I've heard the Tamron 17-50 (which came out after my one) is very good.

Hope others can concur.

I have no problem recommended Tamron as a choice.

I know the 10-22 (Canon) isn't 2.8 - but it DOES ROCK!

What about the Canon 15mm Fisheye? I've heard it's not too Fishy and there are programs to 'defish' when required.

1.) Less Expensive
2.) Low light
3.) Wide Angle

Pick two.
Low light WA lenses are never inexpensive (if they're any good at all). What's your budget? A dollar amount would be very helpful in sorting the options.

I absolutely ADORE my Tokina 12-24mm f/4.

That being said, I'm probably going to sell it for the new Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 :D

My favourite at the moment is the Canon 15mm fisheye, although that could well change, as I'm a bit of a fickle so-and-so.

Another fan of the Tokina 12-24 here. I've got the Nikon 24/2.8, fast and crisp, but it's just not wide enough. I hadn't heard about the new 11-16, i'll have to check it out.

Sigma 12-24

It'll really be wide when I get a FF camera.

I know you didn't want to hear about the EF-S lenses, but if you get a chance, rent one to try it out. One of my favorite lenses is the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM. In fact, I just used it this evening.

It has great resale value, normally is doesn't depreciate and if it does, it's a very small amount. That way, you can use it in your non-full frame camera and sell it when/if you go FF.
