Another case of having the idea in my mind, but lacking the expertise to do it justice. Here is what I ended up with before abandoning the idea.
Opposite Ideology - Same Mentality
The idea behind the photo was to have the shadows merge at the head to give the message that two soldiers fight for different ideas yet fight with the same mindset.
The problems I was encountering are:
1) The use of plastic army men just looked silly.
2) The shadows weren't consistent. Basically, one light source was flooding out the shadow from the other. Also, you can see the shade from the obstacle used to block the shadow from casting on the far soldier.
Ultimately, I dropped the idea, went with my backup, and am now regretting not having submitted this one anyway. (Yes, the back-up idea was that bad)

One way you might have gotten a different, maybe more interesting, result was to use two different color lights. That way, the shadows of the soldiers would be two different colors, but the intersecting head shadow would be black (i think). If you approximately matched the light colors with the soldier colors (but swapped, maybe), it might have added more again.
But hey, that's just my idea, and it probably would have been just as hard to get right anyway :)

Neat idea Trinch, I don't think I could have pulled it off with the set up I have either.
I like Sleekr's suggestion on it too. |
