buy a 40d and a 70-200 2.8 L for the trip ?

i really only have a 17-40 f:4 L now - and a macro lens i was thinking of leaving behind.
i'd bring the 17-40 obviously...

my 10d has close to 30K shots through it - and i'd hate to have it die while overseas...

i'd bring both bodies if i upgraded prior.

where are you going in europe? if you are going to london, remember that the streets are narrow and the buildings all sorta crammed in together, wide angle lens would be good for that and the Thames adn the countryside etc

we'll likely be stationed in krakow, and stay in eastern europe for the trip.

limited time has forced us to re-work our plans.

looking at southern poland, prague, and southern croatia ( this might change to budapest ).

the long zoom would be great for candids if it wasn't so bloody big and conspicuous. There's a lot of stuff to see in London, and anywhere else in Europe and I think the 17-40 L will be great, but it depends on what you want to do really. A longer lens is great for capturing the locals without interfering, but i'm not so sure the 70-200L will allow you to do this unnoticed.

But, having said that it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

well i've been meaning to buy it for eternity now, so i likely will.

i'm more worried about the camera body issue.

more curious about travelling with the 70-200. seeing as it's big...
