Hi,
I was looking at the number of votes for my girlfriend's picture and the number of votes for my picture in the "all alone" challenge, and it's actually quite the same number.

It seems that even if there is a large amount of pictures for this contest, all the people who vote actually vote for all the pictures. Which I think is quite interesting in the way that every picture will receive an equitable vote.

i dont think that is necessarily true, and maybe more of a coincidence

Well I was thinking that because our pictures are really different styles, and there is more than 300 pictures. I would find it really strange if it was a coincidence.

Each voter sees the photos in a random order. That means that there will always be a reasonable consistency, subject to statistical random fluctuation, among the number of votes received by each entry at any given time, provided that sufficient time has passed in the voting to allow the voters to consist of a random sample. The fact that the shots have the same number of votes is not a coincidence, but it in no way implies that everyone is voting on all 300+ shots. In fact, very few will vote on all the shots in this challenge.

Do you plan to vote for each of the entries?

Nope. Voting on that many means not giving any of the shots enough time to appreciate them. It would take an hour to vote if I only gave each shot 10 seconds to look at it. That's not enough time to do it justice and to see what the photographer meant to show me, so I prefer not to vote on all of them. I'd like to give each shot a lot more time to consider it than that.

Really, you don't vote at all?

Suppose that you decide to vote only on a few number of pictures. How would you choose the pictures? Randomly, or would you choose to focus on the best, from the preview from the thumbnail?

You can vote on as few as 20% of the pictures and have your vote count. In this challenge, that's about 65-70 pictures. That's not too bad. Plus, I don't pick and choose the ones I vote on. I'll just vote on what comes up when I have time.

Well,I have heard this for a long long time but for some reason if there are simular photos or titles they almost always seem to be grouped for me.

This challenge has 300+ similar photos in it - they are all about "alone." I think you see this pattern because the challenge topic itself seems to suggest it.

Well I've voted and commented on just over a third of the photos (112) so far, working my way to all of them and I think this challenge has produced some very nice images.

I've noticed a large number of black & whites which I prefer, so this has been especially rewarding.

Well done everyone.

I have voted on all the shots in this challenge, always do. Once very quickly just to sort them a bit, and then I go back and shuffle after I get a sense of the shots.

Personally I feel that if you do enter the contest, and you expect people to vote for yours, you should be obligated to vote on all of the other entries. Even if you don't leave comments at least vote.

I prefer to vote on the thumbnails that grab me (good or bad) - then vote, and comment on as many as possible after that.

When the challenge is over it's the comments that count. If just one person helps you change your photography for the better with useful advice, or 'locks-in' to your idea then that is worth much more an extra couple of votes from the pack.

I Finally got done voting on the the all alone submissions last night and commented on 101 of the 333, which is a record for me...no way I could have commented on all of them. Lots of good ones, I think I gave out something like 8 tens total...I will be looking forward to seeing the results!

I also prefer comments, and not only votes. Maybe this is why I am a beginner and I have already learned a lot, although All Alone is only my second challenge. It also helps when I read the comments on other shots. But, trying to do all my best, I voted on all the photos and commented 66 yet. I also start with voting on the ones that touch me, whether they are pretty good or bad. But in conclusion, for me a comment is so much more talkative than a lot of numbers.

Anyway, I like spending time on examining shots. So if I have enough time I vote on all, if I do not, I vote on a few. But I try to think over what I give to the shot.

Same old thread, my same old response. How often do you visit the site? How often do your check your stats? How often do you read or participate in a forum? etc. etc. If you (general you, here) voted on a few images each of the above times you would be amazed how many you can see, really see, and do justice to. If you expect a vote or a comment, give one.
