Im going to be in San Diego this month from the Monday the 21st through Friday the 25th. Any one interested in hangin out or something one of those days after working hours? perhaps the zoo?

Unfortunately The San Diego Zoois only open until 4PM until Summer. Sea World is only open until 6PM until Summer. I have annual passes for both. You can't stay another day or two and attend the jousting tournament I posted about this morning? There is a Renaisance Faire this weekend and next weekend in Esconddo. Unfortunately I work until 6 or so, but if you're interested in doing something in the evening let me know and hopefully I'll be free.
(ETA) that is if you don't mind hanging out with an old fart.

nope im there on business and our flights are already booked. that sucks about the times for the zoo though. yeah, last thing i want when im there is to be couped up in the hotel.

You gonna be a Miramar, Cory? Just a couple miles from me. After work shooting, sunsets down in La Jolla/
Del Mar, we got hot air balloons launchin every evening over in Del Mar as well. I'll see what's going on in that timeframe.

well camp pendleton, but im pretty sure ill make my way to miramar at least once. yeah ive heard great things about del mar.

| I'm going to be there next weekend/part of the week on a family vacation. Things are kind of unplanned so far as what we're doing (Legoland, Seaworld, etc) but I was hoping to break away at some point for some night shots of the skyline on the water from Coronado Island (I know, it's been done a million times, but seems like a nice place). Ooh, the hot air balloons sounds nice too, where in Del Mar is that? |

Marc, Legoland, Sea World, the Zoo and Wild Animal Park are all good places to go. If you go to Coronado Island try to go to the famous Hotel Del Coronado (ETA: don't pay for parking, there should be parking within a block on the street). Walk through the grounds to a nice beach on the Pacific. The bridge drive is scenic also, but not so much for the driver. Other good overlooks are Cabrillo Monument in Point Loma, Shelter Island and Harbor Island, and the top of Mount Soledad, which can be tricky to get to since Soledad Mtn road caved in a few months ago. I don't know where the balloons take off from, but I see them from home nightly. They land 2 or 3 miles away. Also there are hang gliders and parasails sailing at Torrey Pines Glider Port across from UCSD over Black's Beach. The view of the La Jolla coastline is nice there. Since you're coming from Camp Pendleton I hear the Carlsbad flower fields right off I-5 are very pretty now. I'll be at the Renaisance Faire Saturday and have a pretty busy Sunday also. That's a few of the main attractions in our town.

Hey Cory did I say you were going to be at Pendleton? Are you military? If so, first of all Thank you VERY much for serving. My family and I appreciate what you do everyday. I too served and still like to take time out of my day and thank as many service members as possible. Now, lets see if we can't find you something to do while you're here... Let me know what your work hours are and what time you can break away. I'm a freelance photojournalist/photographer and I pretty much march to the beat of my own drum (some pun intended) So, I'm sure we can hook up and find trouble somewhere. Heck, I think I can even rattle Brads cage a bit and drag his flourecent loving butt out into the sun... er uh late sun that is. Did you say you'd be in town until Friday? Any chance you can stay Friday night? Big happenings in Escondido. Their celebrating Cruising Grand for the rest of Spring and Summer. It's a hodge podge of hot rods, hot cars, hot bods and hot dogs. Since we might be there you can add hot photogs. OK, enough I'm done. I hope I didn't scare you off. Anyway Let me know and we can pick you up and cart you off to some photogenical ( It's a WORD so shut up) place. What kind of photos are you thinking? I can set you up with some LaCrosse, Basketball, Baseball, country landscapes. Downtown City lights, Water front. I'll see if I can get us in the Wild Animal Park after hours with my press pass. We could "do a story on the new lions" and their after hours routine. Just let me do the talking. We could go to Iron Sights It's a indoor gun range. I have 3 Glocks, one Colt APC 45 Remington 870 and an AR 15 M4 mach up. I also have an AK47 and a few other "toys" Anyway whatever you want to do just putting it out there. Shoot me an e-mail. You have a place to stay while your here? Let me know I have a 5 bedroom and my wife cooks pretty good. Were 30 minutes from the base.

Wish I could meet up with you Cory, but we'll be gone by the time you get in. Boyd, thanks for the info, lots of good info there. I'll make sure to add some POI's into my gps so I can find them easily.
For you San Diegans, I just found out Canon is having a free macro workshop next Sunday at the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, and also a photo contest with entries through May 11. |

Wow look at all the responses! Yes Nick I'm in the military, Yeah the zoo thing sounds awesome, since I'm going to be working every day I'm there I have to stay in the lodging thats been arranged for me, thanks for the offer though. I'm open to anything to shoot, as you could imagine I would prefer to take as many photos as possible.
