Sorry about that, The two qoutes sort of ran together. My bad.

As for what Scarbird and Clubjuggle have said to me.
1. Clubjuggle. I have a job, I actually work at my job so I do not have alot free time to waste on DPC. I also am a stay at home dad with my 3 kids. You calling me out on this is a bit rude to say the least. When you have no idea of my reasons for not commenting often.
2. I do not have the skills to critique properly so If I leave a comment it is going to be the basic nice shot or great photo type thing, Scarbrd you think that is boring So I will stop doing that as well. It was actually comments like that which lead me to stop voting on the challenges because if my voting average was below 5 I was a troll if it was above 6 I am giving too many good votes. So I have stopped Now I will stop commenting too.
would either of you like to insult my photos while I am still here so I can stop entering challenges too ?
|
Actually I was insulting Posthumous, not you. And I was joking. |

Sorta like fishin ya think. Dangle a worm and a Lurking Slippy bites the hook. I used to catch carp that way in the Mimico Creek. They're not really considered to be a sophisticated fish but they provide you with entertainment ...Carp that is. ;-) |

A good comment need only say what you like or don't like -- which you (and you alone) are perfectly qualified to do. A better comment may include why you like or don't like something. But a good comment does not need to say anything about how to go about fixing it; some people will probably even resent unsolicited advice.
However, giving comments about what you like and don't like (and why) will help your own photography much more than the comments which people leave on your entries.

That happened when he voted, The system automatically moves the comment to the top of the list when you vote, change a score or comment. |

No. It wouldn't disappear. When you change your vote, or cast a vote when you've already commented, the comment moves to the top and clears the 'Helpful' checkbox.
A comment can be 'Removed' by using the comment box popup from the thumbnail page. So what the prior posters are saying is they had the comment, then it disappeared for awhile, and then came back. ??? |

It didn't disappear on mine, Just moved to the top when I assume he voted earlier today. The link still points to the page about April Fools Day etc so nothing else changed except it's position in the line up...
Are you guys sure it disappeared on your photos or when you say disappear are you talking about the helpful check box?

Personally, I got a chuckle out of it. Not sure why anyone gets upset at it. I don't know who it was, though. |

Well, Raish has finally got back to mine and deleted his comment. Not sure if he had voted on it or not, my comments dropped by 1 but my score stayed the same, either he voted first time around when he did the April fools thing, or is going through these images a second time and STILL hasn't voted. who knows.. cheers for removing that comment anyhow.
just checking out his profile and his comments are dropping by the minute, its dropped by 11 comments in the last 120 seconds alone.. so definitely him..

It never disappeared for me (that I noticed), it just moved higher on the list -- i.e. showed as more recent.
Update: This morning it's at the top of the list again. I think he's having lots of fun with us. |

I have only dipped into this thread sporadically, and haven't read it all, but this is my reaction to those who are bent out of shape by this "DNMC" comment thing:
"If the challenge was "Red" and someone commented "Red!" on every entry, would you be complaining to SC about that? And if so, why?"
I mean, get real! The challenge was "DNMC" and I thought the comment was entirely appropriate to the challenge itself. As far as I'm concerned, every image entered OUGHT to be DNMC or it's missed the mark :-)
And that's all I have to say about that.

No no, Robert, it's the Freestudy he did that on, which does make it funny :) |

Ummmm Bear, the challenge was Free Study and that is where the comments were placed. |

...except the comments were on Free Study 2008-03.
I've recently received an update from Peter. It looks like he might not be able to comment on the entries as he has planned, but will remove the interim "jester" comments, which were, of course, intended to explain the DNMC comments as being an April Fools joke.
As stated previously, this should be taken care of by the end of the voting period.

Cuz it's DPC :/
What IS funny, though, is that not only are "comments made" numbers dropping on his profile, but also "comments marked helpful". So SOME saw the humour in it :D

Here's my little apology to the whingeing masses:
I haven't voted on any of the images in the March free study.
It was neither my intention to make comments on all the pictures, nor to do anything more about the cut and pasted link n jester comments. SC pulled me up on that, fair play.
There's a lot of great pictures, of course, and it's a shame I can't comment, but if I did one I'd have to do them all and it's not on, sorry.
You may now fondly imagine that the one definite ten and the one honey pot load of praise that I most regret having to leave out, was for you picture.
Next year I shall do exactly the same thing, sort of, so be prepared.
Back to your regular programming. |

I would also hasten to add that the the conventional operation of these calculating machines is fundamentally un-British and often leaves me at something of a loose end... |
