It would be fun to be able to see an outline map of the world. On the map, there would be a point for each vote cast in the last 10 minutes, say, or 30 minutes maybe. Choose the window to make it interesting. You could do it with the Google Maps API and push the page once a minute. Maybe there's a better way.

As you watch the map, you'd see where the votes are coming from at the moment. Are voters in the US voting from work during the day? Do Icelandic voters vote late in the evening? How many folks are voting from Australia at the moment (what time is it down under, anyway?) With 24 time zones and tens of thousands of votes the moving patterns would take on an artistic quality that would change from moment to moment, challenge to challenge, season to season.

If you wanted to get fancy, you could color code votes of 1-3 as red, 4-7 and yellow, and 8-10 as green. Or maybe allow the user to filter them.

What do you all think?

Sounds fun! Although it might generate some heavy overhead?

It's interesting sometimes when you can see voting trends on certain images (example - overnight score goes up, daytime it comes down) . I've often wondered if something is working better (scores higher) with our European members than those here in the U.S. (and vice-versa).

I'm almost positive that's the case... This map sounds like a fun idea.

Yes, it's amazing how much a score can swing, sometimes with a regular pattern, based on time of day, which I can only guess would correlate with region. I have had a couple of entries that had fairly consistent patters, swinging up over night (US eastern time zone) and swinging back down during the day for instance. It would be interesting to see if a particular photo held more/less appeal by region. And of course, it might be a coding headache for the site, so I won't hold my breath for this.
