I didn't see any other mention of this, so I thought I'd post it here. Version 3.0 of Photomatix Pro was launched two days ago, on March 27th.

Interface looks a lot better than version 2. Seems a bit faster too.

Yup... Faster and the "align images" function has options and is working better. That's what I've discovered thus far. Good upgrade.

Thanks for posting that. I'm thinking about purchasing HDR software very soon, but I don't know which one.

Should I get Photomatix or wait for the other one (Wukong) to be released?

Are you a student or a teacher or involved in education in some way? I bought Photomatix for 1/3 off the regular price because I am a teacher.

Is it the same cost to upgrade from version 2?

Upgrade is free to those that purchased 2.

Thank you, Kristin, but no...I have nothing official that I could use, but my question isn't even about the money.

I'm trying to work out if the Wukong program really is much better than Photomatix or not.

The comparison shots that the Wukong crowd has on their website aren't helping me to decide at all.
Yes, they DO look better than the Photomatix ones, but most just look too dark and murky, easily fixed if you're willing to show the truth. I have the feeling they didn't do the best possible Photomatix job, just to make their own look better.

I was hoping to hear from some of our members who have done their own comparisons.

Sweetness!!!

My big wish was granted, your image can fit to the screen while you work on it. No more working in a silly little window!

Thanks David!

The comparisons are default parameters in both programs, no user input.

As for the difference, i am impressed with wukong, but i havent had an extensive look at photomatix so i cant really offer too much of a comparison based on my limited experience of it. I'll leave that to others who have had a better comparative look. What i will say tho is i have seen comparisons with user input and i would go for wukong based on those.

However - digressing from OP. I'm sure there is another thread for this discussion.

The Mac version is a vast improvement over 2.0!

As the developer of project Wukong (will have an official name soon), I want to say that the comparison was done using a very early version of Wukong vs. PM at the end of last year. We have not updated it with newer, improved version of Wukong.

We also do not have a plan to continue with this type of direct full-image comparisons. It is hard to get a truly objective comparison. Even if you use default settings, there will always be some people who is more skilled in one software than the other.

Although PM is our competitor, we respect them. As the user, you should draw your own conclusions after trying out the beta or trial version of both software; and provide your genuine feedbacks to the HDR-Tonemap community that would guide all future software developments.

I've played around with version 3 and I'm really impressed with the increase in speed and much better job at alignment.

It actually aligned several images that I shot handheld and had serious alignment issues. Version 2 failed at alignment.

Thanks for the link. I just upgraded to ver.3 from 2. It did not ask me for my license code, is that normal. Also the Plug-in (1.2) that came with Photomatrix Pro uses the same license code. Did it upgrade?

I don't know about the plug-in because I use the stand alone product. The stand alone did not ask for a license code but works just like 2.0 without watermarks on my images.

I'm guessing it accessed a registry key or something because it didn't ask me either.
