Hey I was just checking to see if anyone was in the Montreal area on Apr 5/08 and would like to hook up and show me around or have suggestions to points of interest in the city. Lets make some plans.

Montreal here, but unfortunately I'm working that weekend.

Make sure you go to the Mount Royal Belvedere, you get an amazing view of the city skyline. Old Montreal with its cobble stone streets and period buildings is another must-see, Notre Dame Basilica is another must-see. How much time do you have there? You could do Old Montreal, the Old Port and the Basilica during the day and the Belvedere in the afternoon close to sunset.

Thanks for the tips Im there from Fri til Sun. I will be stayin down by the Palais de Congres. Sweet I will follow your advice. Are all these fairly close to one another or will it take some planning to transit to each one?

Old Montreal and the Basilica are about 5 mins away from the Palais des Congres, the Belvedere is on the North side of the downtown core, a taxi would probably be the best way to get there...a 15-20 mins cab ride depending on traffic.

Oh and don't forget St.Catherine street (Main shopping street) between St.Laurent street (Trendy bars and restaurants) and west to Crescent street (Trendy bars and restaurants) is a nice walk. McGill College avenue from St.Catherine street north to the McGill University Campus is also a nice sight, wandering on the University grounds is pretty cool too.

Hey Leo

You're bumping worked. It also made you look kinda lonely, but that's alright.

I'll try and gather a crew to show you around! I should be here the entire weekend, but it's possible that I go down to Toronto. I'll let you know tomorrow when labudagets back in town.

Lucky for you it's getting warmer these days (we've been in the negative celcius range for a loooong time now).

Hey Leo - too bad I can't make it! The places the other guys have given are great, especially if you're into urban photography. Street photography has lots of opportunities on Ste.Catherine street and the subway. Contrary to New York, where you descend into the station just to hop on the train, Montreal has lots of underground pathways, criss-crossing the downtown area. If you like smaller, trendy neighborhood, walk north on St-Laurent's street or visit the Marché Jean-Talon, an open area farmer's market with lots of nice people-watching possibilities and great food to sample (especially on Saturdays). You'll need to take a cab to get to the market though.

If you let me know what type of photography you like to do, I'll be able to point other nice places to see. Hope you enjoy Montreal.
