hey everyone, just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good macro lens thats compatible with the Canon Rebel XTi. i already own a good zoom lens and was interested in getting a macro, since it really is my favorite type of photography. i was considering the Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x, but im not even sure if its compatible with my camera
Help anyone? |

Sigma makes some excellent and pretty affordable macro lens.
I own the Sigma 105 macro and it does a great job. I would recommend this lens.
The Sigma 50mm macro is probably the most affordable macro lens around and it is also well respected, although not as widely owned.

Yes, the MP-E 65 is compatible with your camera, but it is a pretty extreme macro-lens, requiring some specific skills. I would not advise you to start your macro-carreer with such an extreme lens. You'dd rather take a 'normal' macro lens to sart with. The extra advantage is that these lenses can also be used for other purposes, whereas the MP-E 65 is suitable for macro only
Here's a list of good macro-lenses, suitable for your camera:
Sigma 50mm f/2.8
Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8
Tamron 90mm f/2.8
Tokina 100mm f/2.8
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8
Sigma 105mm f/2.8
Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L
Sigma 180mm f/3.5
Tamron 180mm f/3.5
Each of these lenses is optically superb, but some features differ. Focal length is an issue too ofcourse. The 50 and 60 are fairly inexpensive, but you have to come so close you might scare your subject away. 90 through 105 are most popular, and the 180s are quite expensive.
