I have read several posts lately related to the incentive for posting high quality comments. I did not see this suggestion, but I might have missed it (Some of these are huge threads).
Use the existing voting engine used for voting in challenges, but apply them to comments. The commentee can rate the commenter's comments on the "quality" of their comment. Thoughs?

Or you can publicly thank and acknowledge a particularly good commenter by recommending them for a Yappie... With the amount of time it takes to vote on pictures, I'm not sure anyone has the time needed to vote comments as well. |

True, and that's a good point. I think the Yappi is a great idea, but it is something I would reserve for only the best of the best.
I wouldn't recommend creating a whole new workflow for rating comments. In stead of having a "helpful flag" at the bottom of the comments, there could be 10 radio buttons. You'd would simply score the comments.
There are a lot of "Nice Photo" comments out there. I want to "show some love" to those people who took the time to leave me a comment, but I don't know if "Nice Photo" is particularly helpful. So I might give a 5 to this sort of comment and a 9 or a 10 for a in-depth critique.
Likewise, I would give a 1 or a 2 or a rude or inflammatory comment.
