Just to agree with what has already been said, you can compete just fine with what you have, but you may eventually start pushing it's limits. Learn how to compose an interesting shot and how to do post processing adjustments first. When it won't do things you want it to do, then it may be time to upgrade.
My own upgrade pattern was:
Konica KD-210Z--> Nikon Coolpix L6 --> Canon Powershot S5 IS --> Canon Rebel XT
I still use the S5 as much as I'm using the Rebel.
I just noticed the page for the Powershot S5 looks an awful lot like my own portfolio page. Cool.

I learned on a pentax k1000 too. Prime lense and manual focus only!!! those were the days! Even did all my own darkroom work. |
