I'm looking to do some portrait and natural shoots in local day nurseries and I have a couple that are interested in getting me in.
One thing I don't have at the moment (and is being requested) is a CRB (police check) and I̢۪m not sure how I go about getting it?
I will give the Bureau a call tomorrow but I wondered if anyone here has one for the same usage and could give me a heads up?
Getting it won't be a problem but I have a feeling it may take time and I read that I can't apply for it myself as I̢۪m self employed?
Any advice or pointers would be very much appreciated
Thanks |

I replied to the same question in This Thread the other day.
I don't think you can request one on yourself... |

kevip6.......i have had to have a crb check because i became a dinnerlady...byrights the school should have a form for you to fill out and send back to the school so they can forward it on to the right ppl.
plus...dilipv....crb checks are incase you have any child offences, drugs records and things like that. especialy if you want to take pictures within a school.i went on a school trip as a helper and asked if i could take my camera(as my son was there)...i was told no as there would be other children there.in the end i asked all the parents if they minded me taking my camera and they said no.so i got some good pictures of ( only my son) feeding the new born piglets
but im in the uk i dont no what you have to go through in the usa

Just as an update for anyone else who may be interested.
You cannot apply for a CRB on yourself if you're self employed, you have to go through an umbrella agency but there appears to be confusion on that as well.
I am finally able to get my one as the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP) can now apply for them for it's qualified members.
I was able to work in the nurseries without one but had to be accompanied by a CRB checked member of staff at all times.
Hope that helps |

Depends on the state and what kind of clearance you need. For working with kids in PA most organizations require you to take a class of some kind in addition to having a background check. This applies to jobs with kids and even being Scout Master or Den mother.
There is an apartment complex here my mother in law wants to move into. I'm in PA and she's from Md. They require you get a police check before you can apply. As my mother in law is currently a maryland resident they said she'd have to have the maryland police do it. $50 and you can have one done on yourself.
PA makes it simple... https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp and $10, wait three weeks.
For a child abuse history clearance //www.dpw.state.pa.us/PartnersProviders/ChildWelfare/003671038.htm - again, they want $10 and you can do it yourself.
Remember, Google is your friend!
