hey all,
For the first time ever I'm having extreme difficulty resizing a shot to get into the 150kb range.
I've always followed all of the steps that are explained in the tutorial and never had any problems.
Tonight, on the other hand, the only way I can get my photo down to 150 kb is by putting it at "quality level 5"!! And this produces one crappy result!
I've tried resizing just the original, edited version, etc... nothing seems to work. I've also tried re-ordering my workflow to see if that would do something. And nothing!
So if someone could help me, within the next 2 hours, I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks!! |

| If you email me the photo, I can see if I can resize it for you. I will pm my email address. |

| Make sure you resized the photo to 640 before trying to compress. |

also, sometimes I have been able to reduce it some by hitting it with the lightest application of a noise reduction program -- NeatImage, or whatever.

And along those same lines... avoid over-sharpening your image before trying to save it. The more "tiny details" there are, the bigger the image file will be.

Yes good point. I am assuming that the entry is for the "Pattern" challenge, and that there are a lot of details in the shot.
Worse case scenario, you could make it slightly smaller than the largest size to keep all the details (ex: 600 pixels wide/high)

Did you try a save for web? That will strip out the EXIF and other metadata from the submitted version, giving you extra space for the image data.

Thanks for the help guys! I'm going to try out a few things right now.
I've tried save for web. Didn't really work.
And I've been trying to resize it down to as small as 600. Didn't seem to work either.
I think the biggest issue is the sharpening. The photo definitely needs some sharpening (esp. after re-sizing). I'll try using a small amount.
And to top this all off, I'm on dial-up tonight. Argh, not how I planned to spend my evening! |

I think I'm doomed. I can't even get the original down to an appropriate size (that is without any sharpening, etc.)
And I shot jpg, full quality.. meaning no resizing in raw adjustments.
Backup shot it is I guess! |
