I have a giff of a round object that I would like to place on top of a color background in Illustrator, but the background is white. Used to know how, but it's been a long time. I tried opening in PS, then selecting and deleting, but that's not working. I guess I could change the color to match the background, but I'm not sure I'm keeping that color. |

In PS, open the file and select the part you want to keep. Edit;copy. Open a new layer and choose Transparent for the background. Edit;Paste into the new layer. Throw the bottom layer in the trash. Now all you have is the object on a transparent background. Save the file as a PNG-24 file. That will allow the background to stay transparent so you can lay the file over whatever color you want.
Hope that helps. |

Double click on the Background Layer in the Layer Palette. This has now made it a layer you can work on. Select your surrounding area that you want to remove, then press delete. Now save as a GIF.
