I'm thinking of getting one of these...any suggestions on which ones are good/worth getting?

We use a Nikon CoolScan 3000 here at work -- it's pretty expensive for personal use, but it's really an awesome piece of equipment, and does transparencies, 35mm negs...lots of sizes if you have a bunch of film images.
There was a review of a consumer model in this month's US Popular Photography (the one with the Canon Digital Rebel on the cover -- *swoon*). I don't remember the model, but it did get a pretty good rating if memory serves. When I get home tonight I'll look it up and post again.

I just bought a Minolta Dimage Dual Scan III and have been very happy with it so far. In fact, my biggest complaint is that it scans TOO well -- I hadn't realized some of my older negs were SO badly scratched and covered in crud. Nothing like spending an hour or so healing out all those little nicks and scratches and dust specs.
But, that aside, the scans are beautiful. |

| Consider the Epson perfection 3200 photo. There are several reviews available. Will do prints, slides, and negatives. Found mine on sale at a Circuit City. Very easy to use with windows XP. Setup was a breeze. |

I believe that if you want to scan film and do a great job, get a film scanner. I have not seen top-quality scans from a flatbed with an adapter.
There are alot of good scanners. For reviews of film scanners, go here.
I use an older Nikon LS-30 at home, have run over 3000 slides thru it with no trouble. It's SCSI only though.
You may want to look at the Nikon Coolscan IV, a consumer version of the LS-4000. The only problem I see is the inability to do multi-pass scanning, a lack that my LS-30 shares. I get around this by using VueScan from Hamrick Software.
The Cooscan IV currently is selling for about $600, but evidently has a $200 mail-in rebate from Nikon; I'd check the terms of the rebate, but if true this is a great deal.
edit - I need to learn how to type.
