This is a screen shot of my work computer (a Windows XP machine).

In early January, I searched my computer for something that would let me send myself a reminder to check my monitor calibration once a month.

Obviously, I found something to do it, since the reminder keeps popping up every couple of hours or so.
Sadly, I can NOT remember what program I used to do it!!!
(yes, I knowâ€Â¦. Senior/blonde moment, Alzheimer’s, etc etcâ€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦quit picking on me, it’s embarrassing enough to admit this ;-)

I have tried clicking (left and right) on every possible spot of that reminder to get to somewhere that lets me edit or delete it, but no such luck. The best I can do is to make it disappear temporarily.

Does anybody recognize that box and know how I managed to conjure it up?

task schedueler - maybe ... ?

might be under start menu/programs /accesories

i'm running vista.

BTW - a spyder2 can be set to remind you at a set interval of time ( mine comes up at boot every two weeks ).

I looked there, but didn't see anything (could have missed it, though

A spyder? I just burst out laughing when I read that. The people I work for are soooooooo cheap - all I had to use for my photos was Photoshop version SIX - it took me many months of begging to get an upgrade.

I still don't have Microsoft Office anything - I have some freebie open-source program instead of Word and Excel. My email program isn't Outlook or even Outlook Express, it is Thunderbird.

So the thought of them supplying me with a Spyder {for calibrating my monitor that I use for ALL of the photos on their website, and more and more photos of their advertising) just tickled my funny bone.

But thanks for replying :-)

Do you use Outlook? Outlook has a task scheduler which has a reminder feature.

If it is a downloadable extra, then I don't have it. I am locked out of that computer so tight, it barely allows me to turn it on and off, let alone install something.

Like I said earlier, I don't have Outlook or Microsoft Office anything.

Windows has a control panel applet called Color Control available HERE.
It appears to be a colorspace manager, but it also has a reminder function.

When the window pops up can you right click and select properties? If so, the program may be identified there.

Like I said originally: "I have tried clicking (left and right) on every possible spot of that reminder to get to somewhere that lets me edit or delete it, but no such luck. The best I can do is to make it disappear temporarily. "

There is nowhere on that pop up that lets me identify where it comes from and nothing it lets me do other than close it.

Steve - that color control sounds interesting. I'll check it out at home first and if I like it, I'll start pestering them at work to let me install it.

However, it still won't make my problem go away :-(

There's nowhere on the popup that tells you anything but what comes up when you right click, anything? Usually there's a menu. Is there a properties option in the menu?

Colette, I realize this is hard to believe, but you'll just have to take my word for it:
there is NOTHING to be seen other than what you can see on my screenshot.

There is NO menu, no matter what I do, there are NO options, there is NOTHING at all. All I can do is close it until next time it decides to pop up. That's it.

I have clicked on it in every way I can think of, with every button, from every angle. I have checked my task bar but it doesn't show up on there. I have attempted to identify it via task manager but failed to do so.

I can't get into the rotten thing!!! AAaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh !!!!!!

Another idea,

While the popup is in place, bring up the task manager. What does it show for applications? Processes?

Is there anything in the start menu folder related to scheduling? Or in the task bar?

when the pop up opens.

right click on the task bar, and select ' task manager ' then click on processes. the reminder application should be listed there. it might not stand out if it's a cryptic file name - but you should be able to narrow it down.

it most likely will be under the OWNER - or ( your user name for XP ) under user name. not under SYSTEM.

worth a try.

err - too slow ;}

As I said just before, I have tried that and failed to identify it. But it might be my only hope, so I'll be trying that some more.

As I said just before, nothing is showing on the task bar, even when the pop up is UP.

I have looked through the start menu for anything hinting of scheduling, but couldn't find anything there, either :-(

I have tried, but didn't manage to find anything that struck me as a possible candidate. It may very well BE there, and I'm just not recognizing it.

One problem is that if I delete/disable something I shouldn't mess with, our IP Nazi will string me up by my toenails.

Another related problem is that I wonder if I simply can't see it because of the way the system is set up - I am locked out of most useful functions, the computer nazi likes to have total control over everything.

i'm was more meaning - take the process names and run a search to find their location. you don't have to end them.

I'm not entirely sure if I understand what you're suggesting, but I'll give it a go next week, thanks.

Hi,
I noticed you did not have your bottom right box expanded. Click on the double left arrow and see if that gives you more icons to double click...
best of luck...

i mean search the PC for the locations of the processes that are running. maybe the folder name or some other file in the folder where it lives will make it obvious.

seems like a pretty shitty application. why not put a sticky note on your calender ;}

Good thought, but I had checked there, already.

I still feel stupid for forgetting how I got that thing going in the first place, but at least now I don't feel so bad anymore about failing to stop it again!

I appreciate all the efforts to solve this puzzle.

Another thought is to use a program that lists all your startup processes. If you recognise the one that's causing the notification, you could kill it there.
eg. spybot search & destroy (advanced mode).
Wow--what a hasstle

As a last resort, why not talk to the IP guy (Nazi) as you call him?
