I thought my entry was gonna do better so I want to know how the outtake would have done.

Entry:

Outtake:

The outtake is still Pompeii. Someone asked if Pompeii was ever lost and I didnt reply so I just wanted to clarify that in fact it was. It was buried in volcanic ash and lava in 79AD and it wasnt rediscovered until the 16th century, but exploration didnt begin until 1748.

Thanks,

June

Just unbelievable that someone would just comment 'does not meet challenge' on your entry.
I do prefer the composition of the outtake, but they are both a bit snapshot-like. The unattractive shadows in the submitted version are what made me give the shot a 4. The outtake is a little underexposed, but you did well considering that you had to allow for the sky throwing your metering off. Try using NeatImage to remove the noise in the sky.
I think you need to work on simplifying your composition in these shots so they are less 'busy'. I think they don't hold up to the standard of a lot of your other shots. 'Jazz Trend' is a very nicely composed shot, everything balances and flows which doesn't happen in your Pompeii shots.
BTW, did you enjoy Naples? My wife lived there for a few months... fantastic place.

I actually live in Naples now, I'll be here for the next 2 and a half years thanks to my job! Thanks for the critique, I really apreciate it.

Yey, that was me (forever the philistine) but may I argue that it was hidden rather than lost? It was still there, and people of that time knew it was there.

Also the challenge said 'somthing usualy concealed now revealed' now Pompeii isn't usualy covered up is it? As you said, it's been revealed since the 16th century.

Anyway, I must stop being pedantic. The DPC folk like it to the point hence the 'not meet challenge' and the low score. See Bobsters thread above this one.

And FWIW i like the second better ;) Good shot!

The outtake's exposure is fine, except for a little fill flash for the statue.

I like the second one because it shows a volcano cone ( I think) in the background. Given the that fact that a volcano did the hidding/covering, it seems an appropriate element in the composition.
