If you're in Brisbane and passing a golf course on the northern outskirts you may get lucky and see a Kangaroo or two lazing around. I used to see that but that was a few years ago so it's possible things have changed.

You'll notice how hot it is there when you get off the plane, it'll be sticky and humid but that changes the further inland you go. The Red Centre was in the 100's when I visited in November but I survived with a decent hat and plenty of water.

-44c plus windchill though :):)

You probably will want to go a bit inland then, at least at times in Queensland, so you can experience some of the rainforest type areas. Say within an hour of the coast, not talking about the central Queensland areas.

It's not the gargantuan spiders you have to worry about, they're generally harmless; the dangerous ones are smaller. But generally it's a case of "if you don't annoy them, they won't annoy you"; same for the snakes. However, if you go swimming anywhere there are crocodiles, you're fair game; the crocs enjoy feasting on Americans but might appreciate some variety in their diet. Jellyfish stingers can be a problem if swimming at the beach pretty much anywhere in Queensland at that time of year.
