Help! Help! Help! I have just signed up with a new broadband provider and all my browser settings seem to have changed. It is driving me mad! I cannot view any of the links on this site. All I get is a blank window with 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' in the bar across the top. I have changed the pop-up settings as I thought this was the problem, but no luck. Does anyone out there know what the problem could be? |

Sounds like they did something when their software installed. Maybe installed their own toolbar that is blocking scripts. IE7 blocks javascript, but it should ask you if you want to allow it when something tries to run.I have a script blocking extension in my browser, and I have to explicitly allow scripting for those sites I trust.
My usual suggestion is to ditch IE and install Firefox It's really a much better browser. If nothing else, at least try it for troubleshooting. If Firefox can run everything fine, then you know it is something tied to IE.

Thank you for rescuing my posting, yospiff. I was watching it slowly disappearing down the bottom of the page. Dropping one post at a time and I thought it would land up in the bottomless pit of lost posts before I got a reply :-)
I will certainly try your suggestion and see how it goes. Thank you! |

Firefox saves the day again!
Here's something I suggest you do right off the bat. This will keep a lot of tracking cookies from getting on your computer: How to disable 3rd party cookies in Firefox
One thing you will run into eventually is that there are some sites (not very many, though, and getting fewer by the day) that are written for proprietary features of IE and will not work with Firefox. Install the IE tab extension and you will be able to open up a tab in Firefox that is viewing the page with the Internet Explorer engine.
