Sweet, congrats!

What will you do with all that money?

Amusing that the agent for such a deal has a Hotmail address. Real official, that!
03/17/2008 10:19:58 AM · #5
Agreed about the Hotmail address. And I like how the scammer uses COCA\COLA and then Coca-Cola. It looks like they chose your winning number in 2006. Oh I could go on and on but have work to do.

These 419 scammers are getting better with english. When I was a property manager we used to get about one a day of the various incarnations of this scam.

you blew it by making the award announcement public here. Now, I bet you never get the money.

;-)

A country account, of course, is quite discreet and less parvenue.

You had to look it up to see that it wasn't legit?

I try to be an optimistic person and if there was the smallest chance it might actually happen of course I'm going to check it out. I guess I'm stupid, thanks.

Try being humane about getting squirrels out of your house and see how many people jump on the calling you stupid bandwagon. ;-D

Because of the recent IKEA thread I was surfing their site. They have a foundation which apparently has been used in this exact type of mail, telling people they were eligible for a "grant" from IKEA, etc.
I can't even count how many different companies I've "won" from :)

Btw, Snopes.com is a GREAT resource when you're not sure about stuffs... Oops, I see you DID use them. I wish more folks would! :)

I was with ya on relocating the little buggers. It's not like you dropped them over the state line. IMHO. :)

I'm not trying to attack you here... it's just that this type of thing is soooooo incredibly prevalent (I get probably a dozen of them a day, literally) that I can't imagine that anyone would even suspect they're true. There are ones that allegedly come from Microsoft and tons of other places.

There are tons of red flags that should pop up in anyone's head when they receive these messages, like:

1. I don't remember entering this contest; how could I be the winner?
2. Why is this coming from a Hotmail account if it's a Coke promotion?
3. Why are they asking me to keep it a secret? Surely a big contest like this would be run without any chance of a "mix-up," wouldn't it?
4. Why do they often have such bad grammar and weird statements in their messages ("we intend to sensitize the public." Huh?)

Again, I don't mean to pick on you here, but it scares me that people actually fall for this stuff -- it should be an instant "delete" item without a second thought.

I must have a really good spam filter then because this is the first one I've received.

A few years back when I was working in lottery a woman phoned wanting info on something she'd "won". I spent quite a bit of time explaining everything to her, despite the fact that it really had nothing to do with our lottery or my job. She ended the call with, "I guess I've lost $3600, eh?"

Yeah well, if you don't want to get slightly snide answers and you're going to get offended when people poke gentle fun at you, then don't ask on an open, international forum.

That scam's been out there for no less than a decade.

You might also look up the word emoticonm, and it might save you from having to send someone an injured and indignant PM, too.

Nobody got really ignorant......but we could have.

Lighten up......and get out more.......8>)
