I am not a Canon user but I heard only positive reviews of the Canon 10-22, go for it!.

This is the lens i got back. If there's really nothing wrong with the lens i'd like to know. I'm going to set up some "normankoren" lens test thing as soon as i get a chance. I know I'm going to go full frame and would prefer to spend $$$ on an EF 16-35 as opposed to the EF-S 10-22.
I took some shots and tried to see how deep a DOF i could get at around f8-f9 and this is what i got. Am i overeacting because of the 1st lense, it's soft all around? Do i have to use a much smaller aperature say f16 when shooting 10mm? Do different laws apply when shooting 10mm when trying to get the deepest DOF? I've also been looking at some canon10-22mm shots at around f9 and they also seem kinda soft around, except the centre.

and then there's this with no softness, just some motion blur on the subject.

ALL SHOT AT 10MM

Hopefully my nightmare is over, I ditched the sigma and got the canon 10-22. I have'nt viewed anything fullscreen as yet, so fingers crossed. Although I'm pretty confident this lens will own.
Next stop, canon 24-70 or 24-105. But that's another thread ;)
And thanks Les

I just got the same lens a few weeks ago, but haven't really tested it. Looks like I'll be doing that later today or tomorrow! For your testing, did you just take shots like above and look, or is there some objective target diagram or method to doing other than eyeballing it? |

I noticed softness on one particular side and when i exchanged it, the replacement was soft as well. A photog used a white sheet with some weird looking line and dots to test the lens. He also determined the replacement had some soft areas as well.
I'm using the canon now and although i have'nt sent it to him for testing, I have'nt noticed any soft spots. I shot through all aperatures and only wide open do u get equal softness which is normal, depending on how much light is available. So i'm a lot more confident about the canon.
