I'm surprised muckpond hasn't chimed in yet... He should be pretty excited to have a new store within just a couple hours of him! He has won the Mr. DPC Ikea Fan Award for the past several years.

I <3 Ikea.

My apartment looks like Ikea threw up in it.

Yep, they had the same type of frenzy when they opened one up in the Portland area. A lot of people said it was because of the anti-Wal-Mart mentality. But then it was pointed out that Ikea and Wal-Mart sell some of the same press-board stuff from China as well as other stuff... except Wal-Mart sells it cheaper.

It's marketing hype... just like they did with when Crispy Cream Donuts opened up it's first shop in Beaverton. They talked about it for weeks before and the morning it opened they had cones seperating lanes and cops to direct traffic and all kinds of TV and radio stations having contests giving away boxes of donuts. It lasted for a few weeks, but now when I drive by it in the mornings, I wonder if it's still even open.

So many people get suckered into marketing hype. But then that is why marketing is a multi-billion dollar business.

That sounds like the usual IKEA fanfare which happened in Belfast when they opened their store in December. What happens if you are living in Ireland and want to purchase items to take back to say, Dublin. Do you get taxed extra for taking across the border or not? I like their products because if you have a small living space it's amazing what you can fit in to make it look complete and not look crowded.

Have you tried their Swedish meatballs you can buy in their food store? (Frozen, to take home) Yum!

Crispy Creme, maybe... but Ikea is a friggin' juggernaut. The crowds are there there to stay!

I'm a big fan of the Ikea picture frames... less than 15 bucks for a matted frame w/glass that fits an 18x12? Sweeeeet!

i LOVE Ikea!I've only been there twice seeing at the closest one is an hour away, and i don't drive yet or anything, but I have to agree that their frames are the best deals. I find so many going there, i easily spend about $29 bucks each time on frames alone. They also have photographic prints for cheap too. great inspiration. At one time they had a pack of 4 4X6 frames for $1. Friggen sweet.

I'm sure they could open a store here without a word of paid advertising and still get the same reaction. We're sadly IKEA deprived :(

I went to an Ikea ONCE. Will never set foot in one again. The store is an intentional maze, designed to make it nearly impossible for you to find your way to what you want, and then get out. A little of that is fine, but this was deliberate manipulation.

When I read recently about the guy who started living in an Ikea, my first thought was that it was a protest at not being able to find a frikkin way out the frikkin place!

Wow. They GIVE you little maps of the place and everything...

I can go into Ikea for 1 thing and be in and out in under 10 minutes. Never had any issues finding anything.

yea I am of the opinion it is well designed, but soo much of there stuff is particle board that when you try and put it together you need a scalpel and engineering degree
to put together....

Camping out when Red Sox tickets go on sale, maybe. A furniture store? Never.

I agree that their store layout is pretty well designed. As I'm sure with others, the Illinois one each floor covers certain areas of the house so you can pretty much just go to what floor you want and get your stuff and get out, but it was more fun to walk around and then get some lunch at the food shop.

But I don't understand the comments about the quality. The large pieces I bought (4 piece entertainment center) were very easy to put together but were strong and never became weak after all the rearranging and moving they went through (unlike other products I've owned). Shoot it was more difficult trying to fit it all in the car than putting it together (wife's wheelchair almost got strapped to the roof lol). Some of the stuff is pressed wood but it's not your normal walmart low quality stuff, I was more than happy to buy their pressed and laminated products for a bit higher cost than spend anything at walmart or other like stores.

I might consider lining up if they were giving away money, but only if it was a significant amount.

There not a chance in the world that I would line up to purchase a ticket to a sporting event, broadway show, movie ... even less to enter a store.

Waiting in line is NOT something I do. My spouse and her mother wanted to see a movie called "Grease" but one had to wait in line. They waited in line and I went to see "Capricorn One", which was the last movie I saw at a theatre... As you can see I hate lines.
