If I have PS CS3, do I really need to use this software?
I'd like to see what it can do but I have a new laptop and am trying to keep new software to a minimum. I use Camera Raw for the raw processing bit, does anyone use Capture NX instead, is it any better? |

going kind of off track, but i got lightroom the other day and it pees all over camera raw for raw conversions. It's so much easier and cuts down the photoshop time by about a half. Definately recommended.
I have no idea about capture NX though. |

I also recently got lightroom, still on the 30 day free trial, but it is SO worth buying. rob_smith, its a free download right now, try it. |

I recently got Capture NX, and I love it. It's great for RAW (NEF only) conversions. However, as the reviews say, its slow- so don't expect any kind of batch processing to be fast. I hear lightroom is ahead on that front especially.
The speed isn't an issue for me as I tend to edit/convert shot by shot, but definitly consider that if you do a lot of batch conversions. The U-Point feature is invaluable I find (as someone who could never use layers and masks properly), and to my mind is THE selling point of the software. Can't speak for CS3 though. |

There are many threads about Capture NX.
Ditto about downloading the trial. |

NX will better preserve camera setting you set and automatically apply them. LR and PS will not see cameras contrast and some other settings. They will see WB only
