Is there any way you can link us to the full size? It's really hard to comment on a thumbnail. |

Looking at the full size image, it's not bad. A bit of noise, but to be expected. You can clean it up some if you prefer. The only thing that I would do if it were mine is clone out the star trail across the middle - it just distracts me from the beach scene. |

you know, my girlfriend keeps telling me that too, but I kinda like it. I thought it showed the length of time, but I guess it is a little distracting. As far as the noise, its film :). I've tried working it in PS a little but it seems to soften up way too much. Thanks! |

i was just goin to ask you if this was shot on film, because the colors and tones certainly look film-like.
i'd like to know what film you used and some more info about your settings.
as for the picture, i really like the tones and colors, the star trail adds rather than distracts imo, because i can imagine someone sitting on that small tower looking over the see and watching that lonely star move.
it looks as if the sand on the beach was moving through the wind, maybe i would have liked to see the perspective from the middle of that moving sand down at the beach, so you can see the sea at the left, the tower to the right and the coast line leading through the photo.

This image was taken a long time ago, so my brain archive may have omitted a few of the details.. but as far as I know, it was taken on kodak 400 daylight balanced film, shot at f/8 and a 30 second exposure. That "sand blowing" is actually the movement of the waves over the exposure. And I agree with you that, the *plane* trail does add to the image. Thanks! |

Very nice. I vote for leaving the star trail in. Do we need a poll? :-)

I think it needs to be dusted off as it is very noisy. Also might bring out some darks to really catch the highlights.

Very cool image!
I'd have to agree to clean up the noise (try something like Neat Image or Noise Ninja; I applied Neat Image as a test and it worked great!)
I'd also agree to leave the airplane trail in -- that is not a star; stars don't change color and position and blink on and off, but an airplane's light sure does :-) BTW, Another way to tell that it is not a star trail is to note the other stars in the image; they are all point sources, so one can see that the exposure was not so long. (Sorry, the astronomer in me is coming out....)
A couple tiny things -- wouldn't mind more contrast, and I'd lose the little rod on the right poking into the image(I'm looking at the large size).
This is quite a lovely night image! |
