I want to buy some ND filters. I haven't a clue as to what brand to buy. I apparently need a filter holder, and a lens adapter and some other stuff that I don't about yet. Please, school me :)

Sounds like you've been researching the Cokin Filter System. This is the system that I use. It's versatile and the filters work with any lens, regardless of diameter--just buy an inexpensive adapter. The cool thing about the Cokin lenses (or any other square plate glass lenses) is that you can also simply hold it with your (non-shooting) hand in front of the lens to use it. However, if you are using a GND filter (graduated ND), then a filter holder should be used to keep the dividing line where you want it.

Oh yeah, another feature with Cokin is that you can stack multiple filters on the end of the lens. This is great for adding more than ND filter.

I got a few Cokin type filters from ebay, huge selection .. I actually got kood filters which seem to be cheaper (maybe less quality, I don't really know!)

All you need is the filter holder, an adaprtor ring the size of your lens thread then a few filters

How's the glass quality of the Cokin's? Will they just kill sharpness?

seems like a decent article if you like Rockwell.
