I moved to this house 2 years ago. My sister lives on one side of me and 'Granny Yoshi'(which we call her for no apparent reason) lives on the other (at the end of a cul-de-sac). There is a big farm behind all of us in the middle of this small city.
Anyway, Granny Yoshi is pretty crazy about her birds and many kinds hang out in her yard. Bluebirds, bluejays, robins, cardinals, pidgeons, blackbirds, etc. I've had a real hard time taking pics of them, but have come close to bringing them to me via window tinting a storm window in my office. I've cut a hole in my window tint to take pics through, but I can walk around freely watching them and they can't see me.
I've had many brave souls come and grab some bird feed, but tonight I finally had a visitor when my settings were almost perfect. I had just givin' up when...
I was so nervous I was shaking after 3 hours of waiting for a nibble... and he stayed for a couple of minutes. I must have shot 100 pics. I can't wait to check them out tomorrow.

Focus is perfect but why b&w rather than the bird's awesome natural colors? |

Birds are difficult to photograph. You have to be very slow and show yourself trustworthy. After a long time, maybe you can get close enough for a photo, and after even longer, maybe you could feed them from your hand. I couldn't get much closer to this one, but I got a good photo.

Mostly because I've entered a challenge with one of tonights pics (not this one and not this particular bird) and I didn't want to give anything away. But I can't wait to post the outtakes in all its beauty. |
