I just bought one for my minolta 7i, I only have tried one short shoot, about 50 shots, not one was in focus or even close, it was a very dark rainy day, tho I had taken some fine shots earlier in the day no problem, any suggestions?? What am I doing wrong?? |

The further you zoom, the more camera shake is magnified, so you have to keep the lens extra still or have extra light for a shorted shutter speed. If it was dark then the chances are it was too dark. On the other hand your camera may have had trouble autofocusing at such a distance with such little contrast (again a result of a dull rainy day).

You should install the lens facing the subject, not duct-tape it to the cam facing the photographer. ;-)
Ahem... I'd try to take the same shot on a tripod, epsecially on a dark day like that. The less light is available, the more difficult (and slower) the focus. |

the more you zoom the more light the lense probably needs.
expensive telephotos are more useful in low light.
anything over 400mm in my mind should be on a tripod
unless the light is really good.
i have a lightweight slik tripod that is easy to carry around.
and easy to set up - quick release locks on the legs.
3 ways to adjust up top.
quite handy

Ella, you might also consider a remote 'shutter' release so you can keep your hands off the camera too. |

I took some more shots with a monopod this aft, and now I am getting strange circular blur around edges and some halo edges too, is this still because no tripod or did I buy a bad lense? It is a raynox 1.85 pro conversion lense. Has anyone heard of these lenses 2 stores reported this brand best. HELP! : ) |

Without seeing the halo effect, it sounds like chromatic abberation (due to the lens) and blurring near the edge of the field is probably due to the lens as well if the center is sharp.
