As of two hours ago, we officially adopted Tucker, a 3 1/2-year-old Greyhound from Massachusetts. He is HUGE, and we are quickly making him part of the family. I haven't had a dog since I was a kid, and my wife and kids have never had a pet bigger than a goldfish prior to welcoming Tucker to the family. We are THRILLED, and I'm certain I will be pointing my camera at him a LOT! :) Here is one snapshot I took of him, and there will be more on the way. YEAH!!

Speaking of which, here is another shot. I just grabbed my Rebel XT, taken in P mode with the onboard flash. I'll take some "proper" shots of him soon, but for now it's just snaps. Enjoy!

Congrats on your beautiful Greyhound Tucker!! We adopted our Strider 6 1/2 years ago and he is a big dog too (86 lbs) but I have found him to be the most graceful animal I've ever owned and he's never broken anything in our somewhat crowded home. Greyhounds are the most friendly dogs of all and I'm sure you and your family will love having Tucker around! |

Good to hear that yours has never broken anything. When Tucker first walked in our house, his tail was wagging like crazy. That made me a little nervous, as I was picturing the carnage of what that tail could do. But when we went for a walk around the block, I was so glad to see that he was easy to handle on a leash. With a slight tug, he was right with me, and never tried to drag me around (not that he could, as I am over 3 times his weight). Right now he is in his crate for the night, and he is whining. I hope my son Donnie can sleep okay tonight, as his room got elected to have the crate in it! This may be a loooooong night... |

We never had to crate Strider. We put his bed beside ours and he slept there quietly all night (keeping our bedroom door closed). I worked outside the home when we got Strider so rather than crate him we used a baby gate and kept him confined in the kitchen until we were sure he would be fine in the house without us at home. That lasted about 2 weeks. He's had the run of the house since and hasn't caused one bit of problem for us. |

Hope you got some sleep with your new baby :-)
Congratulations! What a great thing to adopt a full-grown dog. He's a great looking boy and best of all, looks so very kind. Best wishes to you and your family (and to Tucker)! |

Beautiful Greyhound and I sure am glad you adopted him. Good for you, both.
He looks so friendly and eager. Are they nervous dogs? |

Thanks everyone for your kind replies. Yes, we got (some) sleep last night, as he stopped whining and crying around 11:15. He is extremely friendly and lovable, but he is still a little nervous about being in a new environment with people he's never met. I can tell he is a kind soul, and I'm looking forward to a lot of years with him. |

Tucker will get over his nervousness in no time at all. After living in a cage most of his life he will be a bit intimidated by the new surroundings.
This is Strider, we've had him 6 1/2 years, he's now 10 1/2 years old. We are having a blizzard here today and he pranced around in that snow like he was a puppy! Greyhounds are just fantastic pets!
