What type of software is commonly used for photo editing?
I presume Photoshop is it, probably a no-brainer...
However, if a person is on a budget what level of PS would you suggest?? |

There are lower cost options:
- Photoshop Elements
- Paintshop Pro
- GIMP (free)
All of them have their points. Some dredging of the forums here would probably turn up a significant amount of discussion on them all. |

Realistically, *any* photo editing package that includes more than rudimentary features will be quite a learning curve. Don't let that put you off. You really will want to come up that curve. Elements is a much better package than it was even a few years ago, and is really a relative bargain. The advantages of learning Elements are:
- The user interface is similar to Photoshop, so if you want to eventually move up, it's easier if you know Elements
- There's probably more tutorials on the web for Elements than for many other packages
