Went back for more creative shots with the lensbaby and ultrawide, still had a telephoto for a few sniped headshots. No photoshopped bluring or effects, just level/curves/sharpening/saturation/dodge/burn.

I think it's time to resurrect this thread...
Today I met with fellow DPCer Thom ( Man_Called_Horse) as we are both from the L.A. area and had talked about getting together to get motivated and inspired to shoot more, and to collaborate and get those photographic juices flowing. Thom is a really nice guy and very knowledgeable... I am sure I can learn quite a bit from him. Although we didn't have much to shoot, it was definitely time well spent.
One of the things we talked about was getting together occasionally with other L.A. DPCers who might be interested in going on shoots, collaborating, etc. Is there anyone else in the L.A. area interested? Thom and I talked about visiting Greystone Mansion in the upcoming weeks and, in the spring, going to the Poppy Preserve in Lancaster. Any other ideas are also welcome!

Just got back from Chinese new years parade in Chinatown. I have a few pictures also from the Rose Parade.
I have 2 kids so there isn't much time I have this year, but I'll watch this thread. |

I'm in Orange Co. and could meet up with you guys. It all depends on when and where. I'll pass on the Lancaster excursion, though! ;-)

Les: According to your profile, you're only a one year old. A little young to be driving around, don't you think? Seriously, we can work locations based on where everyone is located.
Tom: No problem, we all have other things going on. I have 2 kids myself and Thom has 3, so I totally understand, but do keep checking in!

Ha...LOL! I wish DPC would just allow a month and day for one's birthday. I really don't like giving up the year, so I fudged it. :-)
I travel quite a bit, so my weekends are usually full. With enough notice, I could probably make an LA GTG.

When ever, where ever, whom ever, just let me know.
Maybe if we came up with a theme ourselves, the location would be revealed.

Hi Everyone,
I'm heading out to Santa Monica with the LA Shooters on Saturday. They are meeting around 10am, but I'll be there at 11am. We're starting at the pier and wandering from there. It's a "Use only one focal length" type of outing, but I am going to be doing some HDR.
Anyone want to go?
Arielle (213) 675-0454 if you decide to join!
Also, I'm heading to the Poppy Preserve at the end of March: 29th or 30th. They open on March 15th, but I'll be out in Joshua Tree that weekend shooting wildflowers! They're having a great wildflower run right now!

Right now it's looking like I *might* be in "Lost Wages" Apr 1-3, and if I go, I might be able to come in a day or two early . I'd love to make another trip to the poppy preserve, perhaps renew my "Lizard Whisperer" license ;-) |

I would love to see you, Fritz! Try to come down over that weekend and we'll definitely go to the Poppy Preserve!!! I can't go during the work-week, but I am free that weekend and the weekend after!

Well It was a last minute thing I found out about this, but I ended up in Long Beach yesterday. There was an open house, studio. Talking with the owner, she plans on doing this every month, so I will try to remember to drop the info down in here when I find out the date of the next one.
D.M. Gremlin Productions Here is the link to the openhouse page from yesterday, and I am assuming this will be updated for the next one.

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome back. Life's been busy with lots of ups and downs. I am hoping to make a triumphant return to photography, and I decided I better start now!
LittleGett, thanks for the link! Looks interesting! Keep us posted!
As for the Poppies, I'll post a LA Area DPC Meet-Up for that separately! :)

D.M. Gremlin Forums This would be a good place to join. The studio is great Wicked cheap to rent, they also do music production if I didn't say that last time.
However, I do warn you, the forum May not be Work Safe. However, its a good place to find Socal Models and notice on some events.

That sounds awesome, but I have no clue how I could get there on a Friday night from Glendale. What time does it start? I work til 6:15pm, have to head home to feed the cats and then I can head off by 7pm. I think it might take me til 9pm to get to LB on a Friday night... eeek!

The last one went until after midnight, so yeah theres time L()L. It was scheduled to start last time around 6pm, but people didn't start showing up until closer to 7. Best thing to do would be join their studio forum and talk to Wynnesome (studio owner) directly.

I also just found out that on March 29th, Adam Chilson will be doing a workshop out of the studio on Lighting. And let me tell you from watching him work that he is seriously meticulous with his lighting, and his images prove how important lighting can be. Use the same contact info above, there is a really limited number of slots for that.

Hi All,
I seem to have been away a lot this year - Hope all are well and good? I really quite fancy a trip to the poppies - Still haven't done it in the 10 years of living here.
I did a quick shoot yesterday - Thought I would post it up as I haven't put anything on here for a while.
Cheers
Jeff
