But think about it... 100 years ago, 1908, everyone is gone. Maybe 10 people living older than 100 yrs old?

In 2000 there were ~65,000 americans over 100 years old (0.02%). That segment is expected to grow to 0.09% by 2100

I was thinking about that the other night. The local news does birthday wishes every night and that night all three were for 100th birthdays. Even 20 years ago reaching 100 was almost unheard-of. Today it's not that uncommon. What will it be like in another 20 years?

But I think I understand Leo's musings... it's a rather strange feeling to think about all those who, a hundred years ago, were living lives much like ours and now they're all gone... so many, just.... gone. Rather like this album on youtube.

The more people on the planet, the more surface pressure is exerted, thus compacting the planet into a denser orb. If it continues, the density will affect the magnetic strength and in time will pull the moon out of it's orbit, sending it crashing into Earth, thus the end of life as we know it.

Or not.

I didnt think of that, you're right of course, the more people on the face of the planet means more weight that the earth has to support, eventually it will just drop out of the sky..

Your genius is immeasurable.

;)

That's a funny notion, but it ignores the fact that the earth is a closed system. It contains pretty much all the "weight" it ever has...or ever will.

Yup conservation of mass. You can't just create it out of nothing. Well you kinda can...but we aren't going to go there.
