I have a cheap, crappy camera ok (I couldn't afford more than $99 at Walmart for a 2.1MP camera with no optical zoom or macro)
so as soon as I got it I realized that Macro work is going to be very important to me, so I looked around and found out some tricks... OK maybe the results aren't profesional, but I can take photos with this camera that it wasn't designed to take.
1) First I bought a set of close-up filters from the pawn shop for $5
2) I found out that I can use the lenses from my old Canon AE-1 backwards for very good extreme macro work. I just had to make a little jig to hold the lens in front of the camera backwards.
3) Discovery #2 caused me to realize after a few tries that I'm running into some very serious DOF limitations, so I had to figure some way to reduce the aperture to increase DOF.
Well, I experimented and finally I came up with a small cap that goes directly on the camera lens (on my camera you can take the face plate off and that allows you access to the lens)
This is a small cap made of black plastic that has a small pinhole in it. I took some photos and I was couldn't believe the difference it was making. The camera pretty much adjusts the exposure according to the amount of light, although you do need brighter lighting when using this thing, the extra depth of field is worth it to me.
Here's a photo that shows the difference:

Yeah, I agree.. get some shots. Neat concept you've got there. Perhaps useful on my very cheapo Mavica-81 that I would LOVE to get better macro shots with...

OK MacGyver! Build us another gadget! LOL

That was pretty awesome actually. I have to try that on my camera with a plastic lens cap and a pinhole.

Can't see the cap very well, is that a pin whole or nail hole?
I downloaded it a viewed it in PS but now help.

ok, this is meant for those with cheap cameras that don't have a way of doing macro with their camera... if you have a decent camera, you probably don't need this. I will take some shots this week-end and post them...

also pardon my english, but I'm not sure what category this hole goes into... "pinhole" or "nail hole"... either way it isn't more than 2mm in diameter. On a camera with larger lenses you probably will have to make a larger hole to decrease the amount of vigneting.
Also, if the camera has a removable lens and it is possible to make something like a disk with a small hole in it that sits between the camera body and the lens, and if that disk doesn't interfere at all with the camera functionality, it probably will work.
This probably won't work too good with long lenses.
