Earthquakes are one of the things I miss about California, the smaller ones anyway. The 1989 quake wasn't much fun.

I lived in California just over a year an the only quakes I've been in were 2 minor tremors in Indiana while growing up.

I was on the outer shockwaves of the one last summer in Peru if anyone remembers that (ground just swayed calmly) and some friends were travelling in the area worst hit and nearly had a wall fall on them :S Good thing the UK doesnt see (well feel) anything much above a 4 (afaik)

haha I love hearing about poeple having their first earthquake experiences. Of course I'm pretty used to it now living in california my whole life and my first earthquake being in '89 when I was 1. But yeah, one in England? little weird.

God that was bizarre, it felt like the house was about to fall down - I'm still high on adrenalin! One of my neighbours has lost some roof tiles, but hopefully that will be the limit of any damage.

I felt it over here too, pretty crazy, lol sounds pretty awesome, I wish we had tremors here, not too fond of the big ones, but the little ones seem pretty cool.

The US Geographical Survey's website reported a quake of the magnitude of 4.7 and said the epicentre was 30 miles (50km) south of Kingston-upon-Hull.

I cant seem to avoid earthquakes..grew up in Greece and now living in Japan.

I dont know how they can be considered as fun, its kind of saying how you enjoyed the strong winds while nearby someones house is destroyed by a tornado.

A 4.0 quake rarely destroys houses. The 6.8-7.0 quake in 1989 wasn't fun.

According to the local news it was a 5.2 in Manchester. I thought it felt like a really big truck going past. The tremors only lasted about 5 seconds though then just stopped. I saw the news and there were all these people going "oh my god! Oh my god! what happened! Is everyone ok?!" and I think the worst damage was a chimney falling off a house. I love British news, it seems to go from crisis to crisis all the time, but i'm digressing.

I remember last time this happened about 5 years ago i woke up to loads of car alarms going off and dogs barking, that was much cooler.

I felt it all the way up in Durham. There I was quietly watching a video and there was a sort of gentle shaking. Went on for about 10 seconds. Couldn't believe it!
