Does anyone here use flash for their websites? If so, how did you learn to use it? Any great "must-do" tutorials out there that people would recommend?
I'd like to learn just how to make a simple slide show to start and then grow from there...
So much great software--so little time to learn it all! |

I have made flash sites before but I also went to school for it. I guess you could learn by trial and error but it would take a while. To be completely honest with you, check some of the local tech colleges and see if they offer any classes you can take. That would be your best bet. Flash really isn't that hard to learn but you have certain orders you have to do things in or it won't work.
There are a few sites I could post up for tuts but again just call around to colleges. You can pick up a class pretty cheap.
Although the slideshow looks simple to the viewer it's all smoke and mirrors. There is ALOT you have to do for a slideshow.

I use flash on my website. I found flash code online that I could copy/paste then edited and customized it to suit my purposes.
Granted, its not a native language for most of us, so it does take some time to figure out what affets what.

I taught Flash at a local university here in Phoenix for 5 years, and have helped several folks here at DPC with their sites. I would suggest the best site to go to for tutorials, sample code, full site samples, articles and great information would be Flash Kit. They have been around for years and several smaller start up have merged with this mega site. |

Mine is all flash based, //www.AdamMathiasPhotography.com
I used //www.tutorialized.com to get a good start in flash. It gave me enough of a foundation to figure out the rest of what I need to know on my own. Feel free to email me if you need help at any time as well |

Thanks for the replies, all... I'll definitely have to check some of the links. I wish my week consisted of about 40 extra hours of time! I'm a teacher, so I don't want to buy one--although that would be easiest! I figure if I can learn it, then I can teach my students--either that or have one of my students learn it, and then they can teach it to me!

I have learned a lot from Lynda.com. It is a paid subscription but I only sign up when I need to remember or learn how to do something...I think the tutorials are great and they take you step by step through the program you want to learn. I work along with them on my own stuff as I watch and listen.
I am currently learning Dreamweaver, Fireworks and my next thing is Flash. |
