I've been thinking about his for a while...have we ever discussed a 'For Sale' forum here? occasionally people post things they have for sale (like today, which reminded me to post this) and i can see where it might be a great idea.

Buy/Sell/Trade/whatever. Hell I've upgraded 3 times in the last year alone, and I'm sure there are many others. I'm a die hard eBay buyer, but I'd rather do it here.

Yes there'd be room for sheisters etc, but this is a community where people get to be fairly well known after a period of time.

Dunno...just a thought.

I agree. A 'For Sale' forum would be great. I would rather buy from people here than anywhere else.

photo.net seems to have a pretty good buy/sell area.

I'm getting worried that we have too many forums... anyone else share that sentiment? What if we added "Items for Sale" to the description under the "Hardware" forum?

I don't think there's too many, personally. However, some could be merged, for example: "How'd they do that" and "Tutorials" are very similar, "Photography Discussion" and "Individual Photograph Discussion" could become one, "Challenge Results" and "Current Challenge" often have similar threads.

I like the idea of a For Sale forum, but it might become prone to advertising spam. Maybe restrict it to Members, as an additional benefit of Membership?

My initial thought was that it belonged in hardware (although i guess people could trade legit software too). I was just afraid of it becoming what Jeff said - a spam forum - which would detract from the regular hardware conversations (which oddly is dominated by lenses these days - funny what an inexpensive new DSLR does to the mechanics of the site).

I like the idea of it being members only. It would help prevent that crap, and would encourage some noobs to get more involved.

Anyhoo - just a thought. A subheading under hardware works for me. As an aside, I think it might be a nice idea to allow people to block that one like they do the rant forum tho...

thanks for the feedback,

P

I'd like it to be separate forum PROVIDED there could be a checkbox in preferences to exclude threads from that forum on my homepage - as for Rants.

Sometimes it can get a little too much like

in here...

I'd be interested in having a for sale forum as long as it was for hardware/software and not just a place for people to post that they've added a print to their store or that they're having a sale or whatever.

Unfortunatly I have had my own trading boards in the past where people sold things and such. However you can not necessarily trust people on the net, and unlike ebay if you bought something here, you can not really police it. Like if someone said they had a camera for sale and you sent them $500 for it, how will you honesty know they will send this? Its can be very risky to sell or buy things over the internet unfortunatly. I know I have been ripped off a couple times by very dishonest people. If this didn't work, it would get so messy, and I doubt the site wants to be responsible for that.

a disclaimer would be all that would be needed to appropriately place the risk. Something akin to what craiglist.org does. Here is their terms of service. Of particular note is their provisions with respect to dealings with organizations and invidividuals. //www.craigslist.org/about/terms.of.use.html

I bought my camera through dpc from a dpc'er. I think a place for hardware for sale would be helpful and I do agree that we could combine a few of the forums into one, like the current challenge and challenge results! :)
