So last night, I went out to shoot, this is what happens to me ALL the BLOODY time.
Perfect weather for the shot I had in mind. SO
Got down on my knees and praised the skies for turning rainy.
Got up from knees after getting a cactus needle in them
Cussed a while
Posed for focus
Fell off rock whilst posing
Hobbled back to camera only to find, I had not turned it on.
Turned camera on
Posed again
Found that the remote battery had died
Drove 15 miles to the nearest gas station
Drove back to remote rock on mountain
Did a hit and splat on a rabbit by mistake
Buried the rabbit
Wish I had thought to bring the Gin bottle
Went up the mountain with all my gear
Set up
Posed
Found out that the remote has a life of its own and clicks when it wants too.
Wind picked up
Wind is now howling
Clouds are moving
Remote doesn't work unless I twist my arm backwards
Wind is now at gale force
Give the evil eye to a car that drove through my shot
Cussed at the flock of birds in my shot
Fell off the rock
Sat on a dead cactus
Picked cactus spines out of my arse for 10 mins
Ran out of ciggies
Pulled funny faces at the camera
Laughed my arse off and then fell off the rock again
Decided to go home and have a gin
Got home
Ran out of Gin
Went to bed

Aww!!! Poor you!!!
I normally do my shooting at home, but today I did venture outside, found too many scary people where I wanted to shoot, so I came home and am going to shoot here instead!

on that note, I just got back from shooting. It's a beautiful warm day (for winter) and there's plenty of snow. Kind of what i wanted, now switch to JulietNN story format
Think it's cold
Put on cold gear
Go outside
Butt starts sweating
Come back in
Switch to not as warm clothes
Go out again
Get to destination
Break through ice in the floor
Feet get wet? nope
Thank myself for wearing waterproof shoes
Go to my next shooting destination
Car gets stuck in snow
Random dude helps me out
Find something I want to shoot
Need a higher point of view
Climb onto my car's roof (with wet snowy shoes)
Slip
Fall
Hurt
Keep hurting
Look for blood
Keep hurting
Climb back up
Take picture
Come down
Get splashed with snow/ice/water brown slush
Give the finger to car driving by
Get in car
Cop shows up
Cannot park where i did
Nice cop, no ticket
Go home
Check DPC
Glad to see i'm not the only one that has sucky days shooting
Thanks for your story JulietNN |

Juliet... that is hilarious, to an outsider! I'm sure it wasn't that funny for you. |

I should add, that as this is so normal for me, I just laugh at it. I think it is hilareous most of the time.

Go out to shoot
Wish I had pretty mountains, rocks, and cacti to shoot
Drive around local parks
Shoot flat images--overcast as usual
Come home
Realize no amount of post-processing will help my images
Thank self for getting degree in computer science, not photography
Sit in house & wait for spring to come
ETA: Don't drink gin, but realize I only have one beer left

Aye, captain.
Maybe this thread should be renamed to "A short story on my life when I am out buying beer" |

Write out however long and miserable a story as you can, and then add:
Realize the card isn't in the camera

I would have used the self timer at that point.
This is a little of my day; Slept till 10:30, had brunch, went down town, shot a few photos, had lunch at the festival/car show/bike run, came home, posted a couple of the shots here.

It's been a good day so far.

trust me, after you have seen one cactus, they all start to look the same lol.
our mountains are pretty small, more like hills with attitude realy. Apart from Mt Lemmon, which right now is providing us with snow and still having 75 in the valley. SO many of us go up there when it does snow, that they are actually having to turn cars away as there are too many people on the mountain.

It's all in what you're used to seeing, I guess. We've got some nice scenery around here, but everything gets so "blah" looking in the winter. |

Well, after you've seen one dreary day, you've seen every day (minus about 10) around here. And trust me, a cactus can at least be photographed.
My typical day goes something like this:
Drive an hour to a really pretty waterfall.
Hike 1 mile to waterfall while marveling that the sun is out.
Arrive at waterfall. Sun goes behind a cloud.
Drat! Yell at sky.
Set up the shot anyway. Get tripod stuck in the mud.
At least the tripod isn't going anywhere...
Focus on waterfall and realize that I need a 3 second exposure at f/8 just to expose properly.
Stupid cloud has turned black and I can hear thunder in the distance.
Crank ISO and get off a couple shots.
Put camera away.
Extricate the tripod from the mud under a decent rain.
Temperature has now dropped about 20 F.
Hike back to car in thunderstorm and put dripping gear in trunk.
Drive home and realize I've captured a twig in front of my waterfall shots.
Realize that none of the shots are usable and I'm coming down with a cold from being out in the cold rain.
There is a reason why I got a fully waterproof LoweZone DriZone camera backpack. Every time I go out it rains.
Then again, I'd probably sit on the cactus. |

Actually, I prefer overcast days for shooting waterfalls - makes it easier to get long exposures without ND filters.
The mud, on the other hand....blah, could do without that!
