It says in the rules for basic editing that you can only use adjustment layers in "Normal mode". But, I found at that the "fade" feature under edit in photoshop allows for all the blending modes that an adjustment layer would offer. I can still use certain effects that would only be available with certain layer blending modes.

Now, the "fade" feature is not an adjustment layer. Would it still be legal in basic editing to use these modes?

Ok, might want to change that part of the rules that affiliates blending modes to adjustment layers, and make it refer to blending modes for all features.
