Okay......here it is....

[thumb]647322[/thumb]

The thing is......the image itself isn't particularly good, yet I somehow managed to capture the ethereal look exactly as I wanted because this young woman has what I consider one of the most classic lovely & elegant types of faces.

Where am I going with this?

Well, simply, though I love beauty in all its myriad froms and ways, I have learned how to capture it ever so much better since having wandered in here a year and a half ago.

Not that Laura is even slightly less gorgeous in person, and in fact, this image doesn't quite do her justice, but what I wanted to capture was the natural shape, and her attitude/demeanor in such a manner that I could convey same.

So I cranked this out and much to my surprise and delight, what I set out to do, I did.

I got a great bunch of comments indicating that I had hit the mark, and this one in particular stood out:

"The low key, soft nature of your photo makes for gentle viewing. You remind me that my viewing experience of a particular photo (especially in an environment such as that provided by DPC) depends on what other photos have been placed alongside it. Looking at a string of photos in an exhibition, in a book, on line, seems to provoke feelings of "like" and "better than" and "not like" etc. In such a situation, the eye can easily overlook gentle renditions such as yours. But all in all the image has a certain soft tenderness in it which will hold the eye if the previous photo viewed has not left an overly colourful impression."

This was EXACTLY what I had aspired to when I took this shot, and to have someone state exactly what I was thinking right back to me is just completely awesome.

What the provocation for this whole thing is was that having seen threads all over the place about this that and the other griping, whining, whatever, had me sort of wondering......what about the photography, and the community here as *I* see, and have seen, DP Challenge.

Well.......it's still here, and IMNSHO, in the best way.

Oh, and thanks to all the photographers that have been, and are, participating in the side projects/challenges that help so much in enabling all of us to work with each other to develop our passion......so that we can have these really special moments, and images, that really make it all worthwhile.
