I received a proof request on my Leading Lines photo and promptly sent in my original. Its now been 24 hours, but I have not heard back from the SC. How long does it normally take for a validation notice to show up on the photo? I am being killed on this one, and part of the reason might be because it appears fake.

Have they pm'd you to tell you that it passed inspection? It should be very soon. You may want to send the SC a note asking if they could please put the "validated" stamp next to the photo as soon as it passes, as they do not always do so, even if it has been validated.

I think somewhere it says it takes them up to 48 hours... You can always drop them a message if you're worried about it.

a couple of more votes (sorry for the delay, we've been a bit distracted) and it should be okay.

All dissent will be crushed by vague but ominous threats.

Don't you remember you are supposed to be the good cop? and overwhelm us with your charm or at least offer a soda and cigarette.

He is the good cop. Someone just moved the goalposts.

This is tennis. Fifteen love.

Do you want to play questions?

I have no fear of the SC, they are fair minded people and I have done nothing wrong. That is my story and I am sticking with it :-D And as bad as it is doing right now, maybe a DQ would not be the worst thing that could happen. Put the poor thing out of its misery.

I know this is always the first place I head on DPC.

Oh great leader of TS:

Since our Oasis is on page 80, and nearing the end of it's useful life in the near future.... am I correct that it was decided that the next TS thread will be the TS Barn? Or did I mis-remember like a Yankee's pitcher?

There is way too much animosity and even worse frivolity going on. Maybe it's time to move Team Suck to the Barn.

Goody, can I be Barn Manager? I have lots of experience already dealing with strong-willed creatures ;-)

Yay! The cleaners haven't done a good job here lately and the place is getting quite smelly. To the barn...

Careful Susan, it's a sh*tty job!

What do you guys think of these ideas: only allowed to vote/comment ONCE, no going back to change your vote; and voting privileges issued to newbies only they have entered three challenges.

I like the fact that we can go back and change our votes. One of the complaints we have with the voters in general is that they don't spend enough time with our images to be able to appreciate and understand them. The voters who take the time to go back and reevaluate their initial snap judgments are the ones I want voting on my efforts.

I think it is important to be able to go back once you have voted. Sometimes I will vote first, then go back and comment later.

For the no voting till 3 challenges, I think it is a great idea, but it has been suggested many, many times (even by me!) and it will never happen. To many people here do not like change.

Or, perhaps, people don't like the idea of limiting voters? I'm pretty neutral on it, but I wouldn't assume everyone who disagrees with it is just averse to change.

One of my favorite sayings from flying relates to emergencies: don't just do something, sit there! Sometimes in our haste, we pull the wrong lever or push the wrong button. Change just to change isn't always a good move. :)

As to once-only voting, I definitely don't want to remove the ability to change my vote. But Susan, are you under the impression that people are going back and whacking your shots? I figure you must have a good reason for suggesting it, so please share!

Darn cold out there - and I'm very tired, but there's one of my photos from tonight.
Not the greatest photo - but it was really quite interesting to watch the progression from 'regular' moon, through partial eclipse into the total eclipse. Then I came in to warm up - it's -13C out there!

Good shot. I think I will be LONG dead before another opportunity like THIS comes along. I was soooo glad the clouds parted often enough to get all the phases. :)

I think if anything that limiting people to only voting once will result in a downward movement, not upward. I bump far more shots up at the end of voting than I do down, and I suspect that I am not alone in this.

Apropos nothing (but noobies) -

_ Shadow Curriculum_

Each year we see the novices arrive,
eager for Accolade and full of scorn
for our Establishment, already torn
between their need for patrons and their pride.

We teach of shadows – darkened by the light,
contrasting with the cold or warmer tones
around them – touched and touching, but alone.
By that which they are not, they are defined.

Over the student body, then, we throw
the shadows of our former selves like nets
to capture animals. For them to set
out from these hallowed halls, they need to know

how fallen shadows’ thin topography
lets their full-bodied characters walk free.

PSR

And previously published, too:
(it's here) in Snakeskin, but you have to go to the bottom of the page and click archive and then browse to the 'shadows issue' which is number 67

Very appropriate to end with a poem. New thread here
