I just bought a Canon EF 75-300 4.0-5.6 III to go with my new Rebel XT. Reviews I've read of this lens range from "good value" to "total junk", but generally suggest it is a pretty soft lens at over 200mm. I've seen some photos in the DPC galleries done with this lens that are outstanding, including some ribbon winners, and was hoping to get some tips on how to get the best out of this lens. Thanks.

| If you are shooting it at the long end, stop down to either f/8 or f/11. Use a hood to keep flare to a minimum and get all the contrast the lens can deliver. |

What Kirbic said.
Or return it and buy the Sigma 70-300 APO DG, and probably have enough to go out to dinner :)
