| Turn it off. Remove the battery. Wait a few seconds. Reinstall the battery and turn it on. This has worked for me a few times. |

On the interent, they are talking about Lens problem.
"Yes, ERR99 is often the result of a lens problem. It can sometimes be caused by using an older incompatible lens or by a lens that's malfunctioning. For example, I've seen ERR99s when trying old incompatible lenses whenever I tried to stop down the lens. Another time, a lens had developed a sticky aperture diaphram intermittantly causing the error whenever I used a smaller aperture. See if the ERR99 stops when you shoot with a wide open aperture and returns when you shot at, say, f8."

Been there. (still there actually)
If cleaning the lens contacts and the camera's lens contacts doesn't help, trying a diff card, battery, removing a battery grip, etc doesn't help, it's time to send it in or replace it. Mine has gone to the extent that it will drain a fully charged grip in 2 days, with the power off. Ugh
May want to look through these:

I will try removing the lense and cleaning the golden bars on the camera.
The lense works well on my XTI, just the XT, and will remove the CF and battery and try putting it all back together.
Thanks all I for your info. And if this doesnt work, im blaming Slippy so I can get a new one ;) |

I just looked thru my records and it shows that I purchased an extended warranty on the camera for 4 years. lucky for me I bought this camera back in December of 2005 so I still have about two years left on it woohoo!
So today I am going to best buy and turning my defunct camera in :)
If they decide its dead, I might get a new one :D

| with the warranty, you will if the camera is indeed dead. that will however void the remining time on the warranty. let them send it out to get repaired. they give you three repairs before the warranty requires best buy has to replace the camera. i know because my shutter stopped working and i also have the 4 year plan on my camera. |
