...weather it is the admin., or someone on site counsel, the last few challenge subjects have been real yawners. Seriously boring, uninspirational, tried and true, over done, bonkers, blah, plain, zzzzzzz.
What do you say DPC just hire a monkey, throw some challenge subjects into a hat on pieces of paper, and let the monkey decide what should be the challenge for the week.
Obviously a human can't get past the tried and true and move onto something more inspirational.
Besides, a monkey will work for bananas. How expensive is a bunch of fruit to bring something fresh to the challenges?

wow, this is really an original idea. monkeys are great, I am sure langdon and drew will be happy you think a monkey could do better. I mean we asked for new challenges because some were tired of repeating a challenge once year, and half the member and open challenges this week are new.
Take the boring challenge and make it into something exciting, it is a challenge site after all. |

inspiration is often what you make it, not trying to be rude but if you're not inspired by the topics perhaps its you and not the challenges |

I thought the bread challenge was something that at first sounded boring, but I think that has turned into one of the most interesting themes recently. A fascinating amount of texture, color and ways of showing it.
I am having a hard time coming up with ideas for some of the themes, however. My muse is on holiday.

Sometimes, finding a fresh way of looking at the same old same old is where the glory of the challenge lies. It takes good inspiration and imagination as well as good technique and skill to produce a new view of a repeat theme.

To quote a wise man, "If your not happy then put that camera down, and find what makes you happy."
I don't know who said that quote...but I found it on your profile.
(We have a saying in the horse world..."Be careful what you teach a horse...eventually they will use it against you.")
I invite you to make a request out of your complaint and suggest to the SC what challenges would make YOU happy...
Then, pick up your camera again and impress us all, but more importantly....
Make YOURSELF...happy.

Fully agree, I loved voting on the bread challenge and I would never have thought this subject to be non-boring.
Besides, subjects like misunderstanding and brown ribbon deja vu sound like fun too.

| I'm pretty sure I read that the challenges are put into a random pool and not picked by anyone in particular. |

| maybe off tack a little bit, but I found I cared more about the less-inspiring challenges when I had the DPL to worry about. I agree the challenges recently have been a bit off, especially with the challenge suggestion board bursting at the seams with great and original ideas. |

Well in a sense, there is a hat full of suggestions. The monkeys write them the site picks them. I think if you want some fresh ideas, You have to submit them as a challenge suggestion. Because we are on our 3rd pet portrait challenge and 4th Leading Lines challenge I am going to guess that either the suggestion pool is empty because no one is sending in new ideas Message edited by author 2008-02-18 10:50:19. |

Have you ever seen Office Space?
Milton Waddams: [talking on the phone] ...they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire... |

We have a saying in the Monkey world - 'don't let it near the hat - or you can clean it out . . '
Lot's of sensible suggestions here though - not least, if you don't like these challenges, suggest some different ones.
To be honest I get a little confused with two common complaints on challenges -
1) not that challenge again !! Does that mean we never have another Self Portrait / Bird / Flower etc etc because we've had one in the past ? What if you entered one previously and want to see if you've improved ? What if you never got the chance previously ? Some themes obviously warrant repeating
2) Challenges are too boring !! I certainly don't go in for every challenge but I am constantly awed by the creativity and talent shown on challenges, and then after I see what others have come up with I will kick myself and make a note to go into it next time (see point 1).

Would that be... one of your own challenge suggestions that hasn't been used yet?
Edit: Sorry, that came out snarkier than I intended. I've also made suggestions that haven't generated storms of interest.
