OK, so I made the upgrade to CS3 from CS. Now what? Where and what are the new tools? Granted I have had had it very long, but I use to use the channel mixer to convert to B/W, but in CS3 there is a B/W adjustment layer. In my opinion this only made things more complicated. I cannot get the same effect using the new filter and I prefer the Channel mixer for now, I suppose it's because I'm use to it. I realize the B/W adjust layer gives more control however I can't control the controls. Like I said I have not been using CS3 for long but I was expecting more I guess. Can someone shed some light on what I am missing, not only in the B/W adjust but in all of CS3. Thanks.

If you go up to Windows, then Workspace, then "what's new in CS3", it will change the workspace to highlight those new tools.

I love the new BW adjustment layer ... The thing I like most is how it has separate controls for so many shades. It makes it very easy to "target" the specific colors in the image that I want to enhance. Keep playing with it, I think you'll find that it grows on you.

Another thing I like to do with the BW adjustment layer ... change the blend mode to luminosity. Doing so lets you play with color too ... again, at a fairly fine grained level.

INO, the B&W adjustment layer rendered my black and white conversion tutorial irrelevant.

The amount of control and flexibility given by that tool is astounding. It would take a pretty keen mind and a delicate balancing act to do the same thing in Channel Mixer.

I still prefer Alien Skins Exposure for B&W conversions though.
