Hey everyone,
I've been considering this for sometime, and with Nikons no-release of a D80 upgrade, I really started considering it. Here is what the swap would look like and some reasons for the swap, also if anyone is interested in any of the Nikon stuff you can PM me:
Nikon (selling):
Nikon D50 w/ 18-55
Tokina 12-24mm F4
Nikon 50mm F1.4 AF
Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro
Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 Macro
Nikon 300mm F4 (non af-s)
Canon (want to buy):
Canon 30D
Wide angle: Tokina 12-24mm or Sigma 10-20mm
Canon 50mm F1.4 USM
Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro
Sigma 70-200mm F2.8
Reasons:
1. I need to be able to use higher ISO and don't like nikon's upgrade possibilities
2. I want the upgrade in the 50mm and the upgrade in the macro which Nikon is lacking in
3. I like the upgrade in the 5d in a few years for full frame rather than all the way to a D3
So, what do ya'll think about it, I think I could come out about even cash wise (losing a 300mm and getting a big camera upgrade). Would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,
Ryan

Just a comment on Sigma and Canon. Be aware that Sigma does not hold a license or the Canon mount, they reverse engineer it. Therefore, when Canon tweaks the communications protocol, Sigma lenses need to be re-chipped to accommodate the change. Older lenses may not be re-chippable, and thus become useless. |

As to the swap-- go for it! :) FWIW i've used the 30D a couple of times and found it to be very good at the higher ISO (800 and 1600).
also, consider a 28-75 Tamron if you want to fill in your midrange without breaking the bank. Not that the 50/1.4 would be a bad choice...
Ryan, PM if you are interested in my Tokina 12-24. I'd hate to part with it but I just purchased a 17-40 and full frame is in my sights. |

I made the swap but for very different reasons. I have found that the noise is better with Canon, well the 5D and 400D certainly and I must say that after finding where all the buttons were and gotten used to it I find it a better layout. Try to keep away from the Sigma lenses as Kirbic said, I found they were extremely soft compared to my Nikon versions. The wife has Sigma but they work very well (we tried a few at the store before buying them)
Good luck anyway, the 50mm f1.4 is absolutely gorgeous |

I made the switch officially today (previous D200 owner). Come on over the water is fine! :)
I made the switch mainly because IMO Canon lenses are easier to find and I was tired of being an outsider (in the semi-pro category). |

If you're going full frame in a few years you may want to keep in mind that not all lenses are compatible. I don't think the Sigma 10-20 is and I'm not sure about the others. |
